Zhalong National Nature Reserve in Heilongjiang is a rare waterfowl distribution area mainly for large-scale waterfowl such as cranes in China, and is the largest breeding ground for red-crowned cranes in the world. Located in the western Heilongjiang Province, the Songnen Plain in the southeast of Qiqihar City, and the lake marsh grass belt in the lower reaches of the Wuyuer River, the geographical coordinates are 123°47''~124°37'', the north latitude is 46°52''~47°32'', the boundary plane is irregular olive-shaped from the northeast to the southwest, the north and south are long 80.6 kilometers, and the east and west are wide 58.0 kilometers. The area is 210,000 hectares. It is a nature reserve of wetland ecosystem type. The protected area has the world-famous Zhalong Wetland, which is the first in Asia and the fourth in the world and the largest reed wetland in the world. It was listed on the "List of Wetlands of International Importance" in 1992. There are 15 kinds of cranes in the world, 9 in China, and 6 in Zhalong; there are less than 2,000 red-crowned cranes in the world, and more than 400 in Zhalong.
