Kingsbury Street Cafe, located at 1523 North Kingsbury Street, just across the street from one of Whole Foods' mega-locations, is the kind of breakfast place, like Elly's and Nookie's, that demands reservations for weekend customers. Unless you enjoy standing in a long line, that is. This cozy cafe takes a contemporary, healthful approach to casual dining. Long wooden tables, greenery and modern lighting set the stage for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Breakfast is most popular for workers and early shoppers. The healthy options include shrimp egg-white frittata or breakfast quinoa wit walnuts, cranberries, agave nectar, flax seeds and milk. On weekends, the brunch set chows down on whole-wheat carrot pancakes or omelets with fillers such as kale, avocado, goat cheese or asparagus. I'm all for health but kale and avocado and goat cheese aren't on my menu. But Kingsbury Street Cafe offers plenty of options to satisfy my taste. Start with fresh squeezed orange juice and a bowl of harvest oatmeal. Then order the Kingsbury Cafe breakfast, two fresh eggs scrambled, roasted tomato, herb potatoes and cheddar scone with house-made turkey breakfast patties. Wash it down with a glass of skim milk. That's healthy. My wife loved the plain buttermilk pancakes with pure maple syrup and fresh berries. And she highly recommended the Kingsbury Cafe blend coffee and cappuccino. I looked at the lunch menu and determined that one day in the near future we'll have to stop by to sample the grilled BBQ chicken sandwich and the all-natural beef burger with maple bacon, sauteed mushrooms and onions, pickle, tomato and lettuce and cheese. Sounds like a couple of winners to me.
