Mother India resulted from a google search, and a recommendation from a waiter in another establishment. He didn't remember the name of the place, but that it was across the road from a vacuum cleaner retailer!! It's a fair walk from the waterfront, up to the high end of Elizabeth Street, particularly on a bitter June night in Hobart!! We ordered Malai Kofta and Lamb Rogan Josh, a Kingfisher beer, and and a glass of Sav Blanc. Service was quite fast, and attentive. The Malai Kofta was superb, may partner said almost as good as the one I make at home, and that is really saying something!! The Rogan Josh, however, was nothing like the distinctive, traditional RJ taste, and this was quite different. There are many regional recipes, so there is often a difference, but this wasn't even close. It was tasty, but not what I expected. Prices were high end for Indian restaurants, but I noted that Hobart prices in every place we visited were somewhat higher than Melbourne. Perhaps it's just a more expensive place to run a business?? I'd be happy to recommend Mother India.

I keep going back to mother India restaurant. It's speciality dishes are just die for. Awesome food and great services! Large range of drinks specially Indian spiced tea is a must try if you are there! Great place! Keep up the spirit! Cheers

It's always nice to find a restaurant that understands the needs of vegetarians and vegans--and one that serves delicious food as well at a reasonable price. If you ask for vegan alternatives, they are happy to oblige. Generally the service is good and quite quick. The meals are a reasonable size--unlike some restaurants which seem to assume that all vegos and vegans are also anorexic. A nice spacious, quiet and comfortable venue and parking is much easier to find in this part of Elizabeth St than it is in the centre of Nth Hobart. .

Food was great but don't go here for good service! Staff were not interested at all. They didn't have our table ready for the 8 of us. Even though we had booked. We asked for a water bottle 3 times, wrong meals were given, no dessert menu offered until we asked. Then the desserts came out and they hadn't even cleared the dirty dishes away. Wrong dessert given. Gave me a look of disgust when we asked them to clean off our dirty plates! One dish never arrived at all. Unfriendly and lazy staff. Will not return here!
