This is one of the good chinese restaurant in melbourne. The noodles are super delicious. i have probably been here four to five times and tend to eat mostly noodles and dumplings but have tried a few other dishes too.

Nam Loong Chinese Restaurant, this one focuses on Cantonese cuisine, and the good girlfriends come here to check in. Their dishes taste relatively light, and the bear's drinks are also special kawaii.

It feels good to be a Chinese restaurant, the master is definitely not tomato egg soup, the sweet and sour chops are better than the mother. The rice is slightly raw, but it is OK.

Started coming here in the eighties whilst still @ Uni. Cheap and cheerful....friendly, polite staff AND really delicious dishes, including the deservedly famous takeaway steamed buns. Have tried lots of things on their menu and was never disappointed with anything. My personal favorites are the spicy salt and pepper squid, and the combination fried noodles. (See pic) If anything, this dish is even more chock full of ingredients than it used to be. Great value and really tasty. Also try their flat, dry, rice noodle dishes - e.g. Char Kuay Tiew, for that amazing, unmistakable, 'breath of the wok' flavour. Superb!

Came here for a quick and simple lunch. Their hainanese chicken rice is excellent! Fragrant rice and smooth steamed chicken. Their other dishes are great too, we had roast duck noodles and beef with ginger and spring onions on rice. Every dish was great. If you're Malaysian or Singaporean, this place has dishes reminiscent of what we can get back home. This is because the owner's wife is from Malaysia. Hence, the food here is very familiar and tastes fantastic.

First of all, please be aware that there are 2 Nam Loong chinese restaurants along Russell Street. This review is for the more casual one on 223 Russell Street (opposite the Mantra on Russell Hotel). You can't miss it as the moment you enter, you will see a counter with piles of different kinds of "bao" in front of you. I have been here several times on my previous trips to Melbourne. Recently, I was there for lunch on a Saturday pm and the cafe was reasonably busy, but I was seated very quickly with a complimentary pot of hot tea. My order was taken very promptly and the food arrived very quickly. I started out with a bowl of their hot and sour soup, which was laden with lots of seafood and other yummy ingredients. This was followed by the roast pork and tofu rice. The food portions were very generous and the food was delicious, as it had been on my previous visits. Whilst I was sitting there, there was a constant stream of customers coming in and in particular, there was a great demand for their wide variety of buns ("bao"). I also tried their wonton noodle soup and their char siew bao for dinner on another occasion during that same visit and both were delicious. The menu was quite varied and the food prices were very reasonable given how big the portions were. Of course, if you are looking for ambience, then you're not likely to get this here at this no-fuss chinese restaurant, but the food more than makes up for it. Overall, I was very happy and will be returning to my favourite Chinatown go-to restaurant in the future. Strongly recommend that you visit this restaurant.
