Our experience was of interesting delicious food, freshly cooked, based on ingredients locally sourced. So the meal took a while: so it should..whose in a hurry. Expensive? Not at all. We ate our fill for €30 with some local wine to wash it down. The venue is small but so interesting: great photos and horse paraphernalia on the walls; a fridge display with the great affettati and the biggest T-bone steak we have ever seen (we know our meat having bred cattle for many years). There are so many bad tempered reviews of this restaurant, all seem to be from 2012 or before. Ignore them, they bear no relation to the current restaurant. Give it a go, you will be pleased.

Really nice little restaurant with good honest food and very charming service. Dont expect gourmet, but the genuine Italian feel. We were very satisfied.

Tasty food, homemade pasta and bread. They do not accept the fork pay.

Serendipity! I took this photo of my wife Debbie in Siena on our Italy trip at Trattoria Osteria Cane e Gatto. After I snapped the shot, we both noticed the framed picture on the wall across from our table! We had lunch at Cane e Gatto, Via Pagliaresi, 6, 53100 Siena, Italy in November 2015. Because the restaurant would be closed the next day and the food is all freshly made the owner explained the limited lunch menu. Even with restricted offerings, it was just wonderful. We had stopped in for an early lunch by Italian standards at about 11:30 and we were the only customers for the whole time. Very little English was spoken by the owner and molto poco italiano spoken by us, but all was well after Debbie said, "We'll get there." The owner agreed and we did 'get there.' A bit of pointing to the menu, an Italian word here, an English word there, and we had one of the most delicious and enjoyable meals on our two week adventure in Italy. We both had Pappa e Pomodoro as an antipasta for 6,50 euros each, pasta entrees for 6,00 euros each, a bottle of water for 2 euros and shared a mezzo (1/2) liter of house wine (vino della casa) for 4,00 euros. There was a 1,50 euro each cover each (pane e coperto). Our total bill was 34,00 euros. We highly recommend Cane e Gatto for excellent food and wine, service and atmosphere. Don't miss it!

We always try to find restaurants that are not mostly for tourists - not an easy task in Siena and much of Italy where there are hordes of tourists. We were pleased that the the tourists were outnumbered by ten Italian men who must have been discussing something important. The food was excellent, and although the waitress didn't speak much English (always a good sign), we managed to order some delicious food. Highly recommended.
