Winter fishing in Chagan Lake, that is, winter ice and snow fishing (or fishing and hunting) in Chagan Lake, is a traditional fishery production custom. It is also the only primitive fishing tribe in northern China that still maintains its traditional fishing methods for winter fishing operations. The winter fishing of Chagan Lake was famous in the Liao and Jin Dynasties. Although the years have changed, the magic, mystery and sacredness of Chagan Lake's winter catching remains. Today, the winter fishing of Chagan Lake has been listed as a national intangible cultural heritage. In 2004, the China Urban Research Association was included in the China Top 100 Wonders of Wonders based on the Chagan Lake Winter Harvest Review and included in the Blue Book Catalogue of Asia-Pacific International Awards for Ecological History and Fortune.
