River2014.

The south of Suzhou in the south of the Yangtze River is prosperous since ancient times. However, the most prosperous area in ancient times has to be said to be the area around Shantang Street outside the city's west gate. It is now one of the most prosperous commercial streets in Suzhou, and it is a daily tourist. Shantang Street has a relationship with the great poet Bai Juyi of the Tang Dynasty. In the first year of Tang Baoli (825), Bai Juyi was the governor of Suzhou, and dredged the northwest river outside Suzhou. This river is today's Shantang River. The excavated soil piled up, called the Baigong Dike, which is the later Shantang Street, because it is about seven miles from Tuen Mun to Tiger Hill. It is also called the Qili Mountain Pond. There are many streets and rivers adjacent to the river in Suzhou, but Shantang Street is still the most representative ancient street. Since ancient times, the business has prospered. There are many old shops and restaurants on the street. Narrow mountain ponds, boat trips have a unique charm. In Cao Xueqin's "Dream of Red Mansions", the first time I mentioned "the most popular place in the red dust, such as one or two," referring to Suzhou Tuen Mun and Shantang Street. Shantang Street has become one of the ancient streets that foreign tourists must visit in Suzhou. From here, feel the charm of this ancient city. The mountain road under the night is brightly lit, more like a hundred years ago. From Shanxitang Street to the west, you can reach Tiger Hill, one of the most famous historical sites in Suzhou, but the most prosperous commercial street is a short section to the east, taste a variety of Suzhou snacks, and the famous old-fashioned hotel Songhe floor.
