The origin of the name of Nanputuo Temple in Xiamen is related to Guanyin Bodhisattva. According to legend, Guanyin Bodhisattva became a Buddhist Taoist temple in Putuo Mountain in Zhejiang Province. The descendants regarded Putuoshan as the Guanyin Bodhisattva Dojo in order to commemorate the merits and achievements of Guanyin Bodhisattva. This Nanputuo Temple in Xiamen Island is considered to be the second field of Guanyin Bodhisattva due to the inheritance of Guanyin Bodhisattva Famen and the influence of the sect of the sect of Buddhism. The temple is located in the south of Mount Putuo in Zhejiang. Therefore, it is called Nanputuo Temple.
