Great hotel which has kept it's grandeur. The room was spotless and the decor was minimalistic which was in keeping with hotel. It was a great price and I will stay again. Staff were friendly.

Stayed in this hotel for a one night business trip stay over. If you’re looking for something with a little character this is a great place to stay . Central Newcastle , right next to the central train station and Metro entrance, a little bit of elegance. A lovely entrance foyer ( decorated with an amazing Christmas tree) with large chandeliers and helpful staff at check in. Finding my room was a bit of an adventure , but part of the charm of a historic building .
My room was clean , quiet , mini fridge , kettle and tea/coffee , tv , surprisingly good bathroom and comfortable bed.
I had a good English breakfast in the morning , and again the staff were lovely.
I thought it was very good value , and I would stay again .

Xmas shopping trip...excellent location for the train station and metro..into town centre.

Booked for two rooms for 6 people only to be told no was a double bed one single while booking you verified it was 4 single beds in each room one of the staff was quick to acknowledge give us two rooms with 3deperste beds but unfortunate they were in attic no lifts to these floors we are all over 55-74 we struggled up down stairs when went down to complain got no satisfaction from a desks Clark rude and uncaring do t know who’s fault it is about booking trip. Com saying was 3 single beds or royal station confirmed they can provide this but made our stay very tiring uncomfortable and exhausting in heat

Situated adjacent to Newcastle Central Station is this rather magnificent old hotel. Although the decor is dated and old , it has some beautiful architectural qualities to the building. 2 magnificent glass chandeliers suspended from the upper floor all the way down the incredible staircases. My room was old , but very comfortable and very clean, although a little warm. I slept with the window open which was fine. Breakfast in the morning was a mix of cereal, buffet fried English and bread/croissants. It was absolutely delicious and the staff serving tea/coffee very attentive. The breakfast room/bar area is very pleasant. I did nit pay much for my room/ breakfast so my expectations were modest at best, but were exceeded in every way. Well done to all the staff! Location is also brilliant for a night out on the toon!

The staff were very welcoming and friendly, offering recommendations and helping us with directions. The food in the restaurant was gorgeous, and the room we stayed in was very nice and had everything we needed plus more we weren't expecting! The only thing I disliked was having a
nightclub so close as it was very loud but the hotel did have ear plugs which helped a lot!

The hotel is centrally located, next to the train station and the city centre and the carpets and chandeliers make it look luxurious. The room was quite spacious but the windows were single glazed and not well insulated, so there was a draft coming in and some noise from the railway (although that was not that loud). The main noise in the room came from the paper thin walls, through which you could hear everything from all other bedrooms. The bedroom size was good, although the sprung mattress was terribly uncomfortable. The card to open the bedroom was demagnetize when I was handed it and it got demagnetized again the following day. The hotel staff promised to slip a new set of card under the door that same evening but that never happened. We did not try the swimming pool or the other facilities, so I cannot give my opinion on them. Although, considering purely the bedroom and the bedroom comfort I would not say the hotel is worth the price neither that is luxurious.

Rats in room and hotel done nothing to sort this i had to ask them for change room and then the next room window was riddled with mould and when try open window there was a walkway in front of window so all cud see in my bedroom diabolical wrote to hotel direct but no one contacted me to sort this mess out

An old-fashioned hotel with an excellent location right next to the train station. Due to the old building, there is no time to adjust. After some negotiation, I managed to get a fan, but it was still so hot that I couldn't sleep at night. It is easy to slip and fall in and out of the bathtub, which is very dangerous. The breakfast was barely satisfying and lackluster. If you visit again, you will definitely not consider this place.

First impressions of the building were good and staff friendly and helpful.
What let it down was the really poor soundproofing between rooms and hallways. Even with earplugs that were provided it wasn’t enough to keep getting disturbed through the night, with bangs that sounded like they were coming from inside the room! Even normal conversations could be heard.
TV aerial wasn’t fitted properly so poor/no reception on every channel. Luckily I had some pliers so could make the connection properly which resolved the problem!
Breakfast was very good with a good selection, as was the restaurant food.

Lovely weekend with daughters in Newcastle. Choose to drive and plenty of parking behind hotel was £12 for the weekend.
Hotel very warm, difficult to open windows.
Excellent room layout for the four of us in 4 single beds. Great spacious bathroom and a super shower.
Breakfast was fresh and tasty with a great variety to choose from.
Rooms really clean. Hotel is stunning on the inside loads of original Victorian features stunning staircase, chandelier and all very grand.
Only disappointment was leisure facilities were not open and we were not notified of this.
I would recommend and stay again.

The heating in the room did not work. When I reported it,they said they didn’t know about it. They said they would send someone to look at it and also bring a portable heater. No one arrived. After 30 minutes I rang reception. No one answered the phone. I went to reception and they said they were too busy to answer the phone. I then stayed in reception until some came with me to my room. He couldn’t get the heating to work so had to use the portable heater.
I made a reservation for dinner when I checked in.
When I went to the restaurant, I Was ignored. I then went to the bar and enquired. No reservation had been made for me. However they found me a table.
It is unacceptable that rooms are rented with working heaters. I have now got a cold resulting from being so cold.
They should have switched me to another room that had heating that worked.
On the plus side the breakfast was excellent, the reception staff were friendly but obviously not efficient( ie not answering the phone)
