霞关对大部分温州市民而言，一直是比较神秘的地方。温州处于浙南，霞关，则是浙南最南端的滨海集镇，有浙江的“天涯海角”之称。霞关，这个充满诗意的名字，源于海上的朝霞。霞关镇古称镇下关，因明代初年，为防御倭寇入侵，朱元璋曾派兵镇守霞关，故冠之“镇”字。清康熙年间，水兵驻扎于此，清晨时，水兵看到旭日东升，光照云海，红霞满天，故称此为霞关。
