I've heard from a friend that Komodo National Park is a must visit place, and he was absolutely right! 1. Flying to Labuan Bajo & Transit Tip There was no direct flight when I was booking this trip. It was going to be a new experience for me in a foreign land. I book a flight to Jakarta and transfer to Labuan Bajo. Tip 1: if you're on a short trip and is new to Indonesia, avoid Airasia Indonesia as both flight to and back was delayed multiple time. Upon arriving to Jakarta at 4am, I booked a transit hotel at T2 for the night, as the flight to Labuan Bajo was at 9am. Tip 2: the shuttle train service ends at 12midnight and opens at 6am. Use the grab or gojek service if you need to travel between terminal during these timing. I paid SGD$8 for grab. The taxi outside quoted us SGD$20. 2. 3D2N tour I booked a 3D2N sailing tour on Look Indonesia Adventure. They have sail boats for all kind of budget - from SGD$260/pax (hostel style) to $1400/pax (luxury). Each tour includes meal for 3D2N, and the more expensive the package, you'll unlock more things like - water activities (snorkeling, paddleboat, canoe) and amenities (jacuzzi, personal photographer). I took the Elbark cruise, with 9 rooms on board. I was lucky as the passengers on board were all nice and friendly and with no kids. It was the perfect getaway trip. The price of the boat covers 4 meals everyday, freeflow coke, sprite and water, snacks, fruits, photographer and the activities. We had to pay a separate fee for entering the Komodo National Park (SGD$50 for non-local). It's worth paying a premium, you'll be able to ask the cooks to cut your fruits, blend a smoothie and even cook your instant noodles. The bed was so comfortable and there's hot water, soap and shampoo provided. Tip 3: bring your own toothbrush, toothpaste, loofa to remove the sea water on your body, body lotion and lots of sunblock. You can skip clothes, because you'll be in your swimsuit all day. There's always opportunities to jump into the water. Do bring some overclothes when you're exploring the islands. Shoe is definitely recommended because the islands are not easy to hike. Tip 4: There is wifi on board. Your data might not work out at sea. 3. Activities Snorkeling - I informed the guide beforehand that I couldn't swim and he offered the lifejacket and personally guided me and other non-experienced snorkellers. The corals were abundant and well maintained. There were lots of fishes - I saw the whole Nemo crew, sea snakes and Tuna. Beaches - we got to see white sand, pink sand and black sand beaches. The beaches were so clean, the Pink sand one was my favourite as the sand was finer. The white one had a lot of corals, which were quite sharp. Overall it was a well planned tour and I highly recommended! #summerbreak

One of the best National Park in Indonesia which offer the only Komodo dragon experience. The park rangers are very friendly and informational. You have to have transportation to this island, normally with group tours or if you use live on board sailing boat tour will have option to get here. Tour with guides will last about 40 minutes which includes some photo shoot session in front of Komodo dragon you'll find along the way. Beware to follow park ranger instructions on the guided tour in the island. #wecreate

👋 Hi everyone, I just came back from an amazing trip to Komodo Islands, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Indonesia 🇮🇩 🐉 Komodo Islands are home to the largest living lizard on earth, the Komodo dragon. These creatures can grow up to 3 meters long and weigh up to 150 kg. They are also venomous and can run up to 20 km/h. I was lucky enough to see them up close on a guided trekking tour in Komodo National Park 🌳 🌊 But Komodo Islands are not only about dragons. They also have some of the most stunning marine life I've ever seen. I went snorkeling and diving in the crystal clear waters and saw colorful corals, turtles, manta rays, sharks, dolphins, and more 🐠 🏝 The islands also have beautiful beaches, some of them with pink sand. I loved relaxing on the shore and watching the sunset over the horizon 🌅 🙌 This trip was one of the best experiences of my life and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves nature and adventure. What will reward you at the top is possibly the most beautiful sight in Indonesia. It’s only a 1 hour hike to get to the view point at the top, but it’s pretty steep with unstable ground. To get to Padar island you will have to take a boat from the main land of Labuan Bajo which takes around 3 hours, but is usually combined with a trip to Komodo National Park. Take a look at the tour operators on Labuan Bajo and see which day trip best suits your schedule. No trip to Komodo is complete without a selfie with the world’s largest lizard, and these are almost guaranteed in these sacred islands. The best place to see them is Rinca Island. The park includes the three larger islands Komodo, Padar and Rinca, and 26 smaller ones. The most remarkable inhabitant of Komodo National Park is the Komodo Lizard, Varanus komodoensis. These giant lizards, existing no-where else in the world, are of great scientific interest, especially for their evolutionary implications. Most commonly known as 'Komodo Dragons', due to its appearance and aggressive behavior, the Komodo Lizard, is the largest living species of lizard, growing to an average length of 2 to 3 meters. The species is the last representative of a relic population of large lizards that once lived across Indonesia and Australia. As well as being home to the Komodo dragon, the Park provides a refuge for many other notable species such as the orange-footed scrub fowl, an endemic rat, and the Timor deer. Komodo Resort had sixteen seafront bungalows with private bathrooms and terraces. They were kept impeccably clean. All meals were included in the cost of accommodation. Breakfast was by buffet, but lunch and dinner were served a la carte. The Chef specialized in Indonesian and Italian food. Incredibly, the resort had a pizza oven and we had a pizza night. Completing our experience, the resort had a beach-side spa and bar. We loved ending our day with a massage, followed by drinks to watch the sunset. The overall vibe to this resort was beach bum meets tropical cocktails with umbrellas. The staff hangs out at the beach bar in the evening all the while making sure we had everything that we wanted or needed. This place is just absolutely stunning! It’s a big complex consisting of so many islands that you can visit, hike, and do hop on and hop off in between. My recommendation is to stay at least 3 Days 2 Nights at a cruise so you can explore and have all places to visit, hiking to the top of 3-4 islands to see the greatness in the morning for sunrise and afternoon for sunset at different place. There are so many cruise tour package with affordable price. Our trip to the Komodo National Park was amazing to say the least. Seeing these prehistoric and now rare Komodo Dragons was an out of this world experience. Visiting Komodo was one of the best travel adventures I could ask for! We chose to explore it with Le Pirate and spent 5 days on a boat cruising around crystal lagoons. The nature of Komodo is truly unique and spectacular and so it the wildlife. We were lucky to swim with manta rays, see Komodo dragons and see thousands of bats flying from the mangroves into the sky at sunset. One of the highlights was also sleeping on Le Pirate island which is home to a wonderful coral reef. Komodo is definitely the highlight of our trip around Indonesia! #komodo #indonesia
