Archaeological Museum of Rhodes

The museum is much bigger than it first appears. Lots of interesting exhibits but it would have been nice to know a bit about the building itself which was used as a hospital by the Knights of St. john. Worth the €6 entrance fee. Staff aren’t overly friendly.

The Rhode Island Archaeological Museum itself is a hospital built by the Knights from 1440 to 1489. The Knights were the first people to do medical work. Their idea was to do charity for the sick and the poor. The first and second floors display pottery, sculpture and tombstones. [Address] The entrance to Knight Street. [Open time] Tuesday to Sunday 8:00-20:00. It's Monday off. [Tickets] 6 euros per person, including a brochure. When visiting monuments and museums in Greece and buying tickets for entry, a brochure with a brief introduction will be attached to help you quickly understand the monuments. [Suggested playtime] 3 hours. [Look point 1 - first floor corridor] When entering the archaeological museum, the first attraction is the first floor corridor, which is really beautiful. Although it is made of stone, the corridor ceiling is arched and the lines are very beautiful. The excavated cultural relics are thus placed in the corridor, and no warning line is drawn up. There are many cultural relics, which is so capricious. In the square on the first floor, there are many stacked round stone balls. They are not simple ornaments, they also have a lot of origins: they are medieval cultural relics, when there was no artillery in ancient times, soldiers fought ammunition. The launcher is used to launch the attack. Now these stone balls have lost their combat role, but they are still not forgotten by the Rhodes, used as decoration of the ancient city of Rhodes, or as road files. The most famous exhibits here are Palos Marble, Aphrodite on Rhode Island and a statue of the 1st century B.C. Unfortunately, you can't take pictures in the museum. Here you can't give a detailed introduction. There are detailed English introductions in the museum, and there are staff members in each Museum who can answer your questions about the exhibits. We can't take pictures in the exhibition hall. We strictly abide by it. We only take random pictures of outdoor exhibits. The Archaeological Museum, formerly built by the Knights, has a courtyard in the deepest part of the museum. It contains a building of a former hospital, preserving the old look. The exhibition hall is on the 2nd floor, and the first entry is a hall. The windows are decorated with stained glass. The light is colorful when it comes in. Closer to the living room of the house, the windows are more compact, without stained glass, with fewer seats, and are obviously more private personal guest space than the hall just now. Inside the house, in the bathroom, the windows on the roof of the room are beautiful, with star-shaped breathing holes. Perhaps because Rhode Island is close to Turkey, many of its architectural styles are similar to those of Turkey. This bathroom, very close to the halal decoration style, has the characteristics of Turkish Vicki bathroom.

The most famous exhibit here is the Marble Statue of Palos.
