A Giant Buddha Is Spotted in Hokkaido
Located in the largest cemetery in Hokkaido, the Makomanai Takino Cemetery, The giant Buddha statue The Great Buddha Head was designed by the top Japanese architect Tadao Ando.
Originally, there was only a large Buddha head here. The owner of the cemetery invited Tadao Ando to redesign it so that only the head of the Buddha could be seen from the outside. By walking along the water garden in front of the cave, you can see the entire Great Buddha, creating a sense of ritual worship.
In addition to the Great Buddha Head, there is a row of Moai stone statues on the left side of the hill inside the park.
Also, you'll find a cafe near the cemetery. It curates a limited edition art book with Tadao Ando's personal signature.

Do you know the "Big Head Buddha"? It is the real dragon wild cemetery in Sapporo City, built by architectural design master Ando Zhongxiong for three years. It takes the Big Buddha as the center. First, a large conical shell with a base diameter of 27 meters and a top diameter of13.7 meters is built with reinforced concrete. The surrounding empty squares are built into layers of hills and the hills are covered with lavender symbolizing carefreeness, and from a distance, only half of the Buddha's head is exposed on the top of the hill.. To see the whole body of the Buddha must enter the round hall, the wall of the round hall is airtight, the center of the dome is chiselled to open the hole, and when you enter the inside, you will find that when you look up at the big Buddha, the blue sky and white clouds are the background of the "sky halo" is the only light source of the whole building, for the micro-closed eyes, The head of the Buddha overlooking the Buddha added a little charm, and the beam of light descending through the darkness and from the sky came like a shrine.. The Moai stone statue arranged at the front entrance, the large height is 120 tons, and the other height is 2 meters, and the weight is 60 tons. There are 33 Moai stone statues symbolizing "life" in the park, similar to the Moai stone statues in Miyazaki Ninan Park, but the meaning is different.. The new green in spring, the lavender in summer, the snow-covered hills in winter form an integrated attitude, and here is a typical northern snow scene, blue sky and white clouds, and white snow withered trees. Whether from the outside to the inside, the building you see is a beautiful artwork worth savoring.. Transportation: Within the city, take the green north-south line of the subway to Zhensakai Station, and go out of the station to the JR station bus station.
