It's not the kind of site the majority of tourists flock to Shenzhen for but it certainly is one of the most interesting; as it sets into contrast to what Shenzhen once was. We discovered a great number of mini museums and exhibitions all around the area but unfortunately came a bit too early to experience any, they open after 11am. There are good Dim sum options open for breakfast with great set values. Don't overlook the food and beverage scene in Nantou. Entering the ancient city, you might think that it will be all old inside it including the food restaurants or food choices. Think twice. I've seen modern architecture designed restaurants and a zillion coffee shops inside. Its like old meets new. East meets West. No big brand names, mostly are owned by the residents inside the walled city. There are countless Cantonese snacks like rice noodles, chinese pastries, sweet potato chips, etc... Western food are present in the scene too such as burgers and fries,.. Coffee shops are the kings of the walled city. I lost count counting them. So i went to a 1,700 years old Nantou walled city in Nanshan district, in Shenzhen with the hope of finding more intricate historic details. And i must say, i wasn't disappointed at all. My eyes were filled with so much beauty of these old, historic and rustic bricks, walls, bold and colorful designed gates and windows. Even the pavement and pathways are screaming with so much character and details. Nantou (or Nam Tau in native Cantonese) is an ancient 1,700 year old walled city located in the heart of what used to Bao'an county. It was the former administrative center of Xin'an county. A truly historical monument in Nanshan district, Shenzhen. The walled city is consisting of ancient gates, archways, rare blue bricks and tiles, charming stone streets and some modern touches. There are a few temples inside the city, a museum, Xin'an county office, and a bunch of coffee shops and small restaurants. #tigeryear2022 Nantou Ancient city is situated in the heart of Nanshan district, it has been recently rebuilt and polished. it’s got hip bars,bakeries and cafes. it is next to a nice park as well. Nantou village holds nice music events like beer and music festival. Really recommended to come down and check it out for afternoon air an evening.

Nantou Ancient Town has history back to the 14th century. It is not to far from the Shekou area of Shenzhen. It is located on Shennan Ave at the end of Nanxin Road, Nanshan, Shenzhen (opposite Walmart) and is open 7 days a week. The Nantou Ancient City Museum is located at No. 2 Jiaochang, Nanshan District, Shenzhen. The museum has two floors and consists of three exhibition halls, mainly displaying cultural relics and photographs from the Neolithic period to modern times of Bao'an County (formerly known as Xin'an County). Right next to it is the entrance to the Nantou Ancient City, which is very convenient.
