Azusa Moments: Through Travelers' Eyes

Post
#backpacking2026

Just did a hidden gem hike right outside LA—West Fork San Gabriel River! 🌲💦 If you're craving epic SoCal nature, this spot’s got your name on it. Here’s what you need to know before you go:

Must-See Spot: West Fork San Gabriel River (California 91702)
This trail is a total escape from city chaos. It’s lush, shaded, and you’ll be following the river the whole way with plenty of chances to dip your feet or even take a refreshing swim in the summer. Best part? There’s hardly any cell service, so you’re forced to unplug and soak up those forest vibes. Go early (open sunrise to sunset) for the calmest experience and to beat weekend crowds. Parking fills fast, especially by 9am!

Hot Tips:
– Bring bug spray—trust me, you’ll thank yourself later.
– If you’re trail snacking, pack out all trash (leave no trace!).
– The path is mostly level, so it’s family-friendly but still bring grippy shoes since it can get muddy after rain.
– Want cute pics? There are footbridges and little waterfalls all along the way.
– You’ll need a National Forest Adventure Pass for parking (get it online or at outdoor supply shops).

Getting There:
Short road trip from downtown LA (about 45 min drive, traffic depending). No public transport access—car required. Plug “West Fork San Gabriel River, CA 91702” into your map.

Food Rec:
Pack a picnic or grab burritos in Azusa—the cute taco spots there are totally worth a post-hike stop.

Key Essentials:
No cell service. Restrooms at the trailhead (but bring sanitizer). Weather can be 10°F cooler than LA, so layer up.
