Walking through the Jewish Ghetto of Padua, you’ll notice how many of the buildings rise vertically, with narrow facades and several floors stacked close together. This wasn’t random — when the ghetto was established in 1603, space was limited and rents were high. To fit as many homes as possible in the small, crowded area, buildings were built upwards, with low ceilings on each level and tall residential structures lining streets like Via dell’Arco.
This creates a unique mood today: a maze of narrow lanes and elegant facades that seem to lean inwards, telling the story of a community adapting to very real limits in space and freedom. Even without crowds, the architecture itself feels like a walk through history.
Best time: morning or late afternoon
Weather: pleasant any season
🏘️ A quiet neighborhood where every building reflects a part of Padua’s past.
