Adèle Levayer is a wonderfully talented flutist and composer living in Montreal. I met her this past summer, heard her play, heard her compositions and immediately knew that she would be wonderful for this concert. Fraser Hollins, a long-time friend and colleague, is one of Canada's top bass player and composers. You will know him from the concerts he has played with Brian Blade, Jon Cowherd and Joel Miller. This concert is dedicated to my long-time dear friend ,Gaby Warren. Gaby has forever spread his love of music near and far through his own singing and composing but also as a dedicated listener and somewhat of an encyclopedia of this music we call jazz. For Gil’s Hootenanny team member Tamara Levine, “Evemarie is so much more than a song leader. Within minutes of gathering – for those lucky enough to join her, young and old, with or without singing experience – Evemarie has every voice in the circle unselfconsciously rising to join her in spirited songs from around the world. We leave her with songs in our hearts and hope for the world.” Evemarie comes from a musical family. At age seven, she began singing beside her mother in a church choir conducted by her father. After graduating from the Community Choir Leadership Training in 2009, she founded the well known Allez Chante! non-auditioned choirs in Montreal. Designed for all ages and voices and requiring no experience, Big Sing Ottawa! takes place on Sunday, November 10 at the Westboro Masonic Hall, 430 Churchill Ave. North.
