You'll have the chance to: Make a log bird feeder perfect for woodpeckers Make fat ball feeders Learn all about bird nests and have a go out our bird nest challenge to see if you can make your own Please note making the log bird feeders involves the use of hand tools so close adult supervision is required. Welcome to the new Summer Leys Little Bugs Club! Calling all mini-wildlife explorers...Little Bugs is back at Summer Leys for 2025! Come and join us for a fun morning of exploration and discovery in our education area. This group is for pre-school children (from when they can toddle to age 5) and sessions will run monthly on a Thursday morning. The aim of the sessions is to build confidence being in the outdoors for both children and their guardians, helping your family to connect with nature. Enjoy crafts, story time and outdoor play in this lovely location. Activities may vary and we try to be outside for all sessions (although if weather is very bad, we may use the visitor centre instead), so please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. We will provide squash and water to drink but please do bring your own snacks. Booking is essential and children must be accompanied by an adult (maximum of 2 children per adult). Join us for one of our popular monthly Wildlife Wanders to enjoy a guided walk at Summer Leys and see what willdife we can spot. Led by our knowledgeable volunteers, these wanders are the perfect way to learn more about our wildlife and meet like minded people, so we recommend coming along more than once as you'll see different things each month! Please bring a pair of binoculars if you have some (we will have a few available to borrow on the day) Hot drinks will be included at the end of the walk. These sessions are great fun for children and grown ups alike and are a great way to reconnect with nature and each other in the wonderful natural setting of the Summer Leys Education Area. We'll provide a selection of fun outdoor activities for families to choose from, such as pond dipping, bug hunting, den building, natural art and basic bush craft. Weather permitting, we will then finish by toasting marshmallows around our campfire. Please bring a picnic lunch to eat during the activity. Due to the nature of these activities, children must be at least 6 years old and supervised by an adult on a 1:1 basis. Additional children over 11 years of age may be permitted to attend at the organisers discretion. Please contact the event organiser to confirm. Please ensure all attendees wear appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear. As we may be using fire, long hair should be tied back and clothing made from natural fibres i.e. cotton, linen or wool should be worn wherever possible. We would like to welcome parents and Year 6 students to our Open Evening on Thursday 25th September 2025. You will have the opportunity to attend the Headteacher's presentation and have a guided tour of the school meeting staff and students alike. We also welcome you to see Wollaston at work during the school day. Tours will be taking place at 9.00am, 11.00am & 13.30pm on Monday 29th September and Wednesday 1st October and 9.30am, 11.30am and 13.30pm on Tuesday 30th September. NB. Booking for both the Open Evening and Open Days is essential as these events are ticket only to avoid overcrowding and will be extremely popular and we do get fully booked.
