Nature Tots is suitable for ages 15 months – 5 years and runs every Monday during Merseyside School Term time. Each session has a different theme and activities include nature art, story time, bug hunts, games, crafts and much more! Please come dressed for the weather wearing sturdy footwear and suitable clothing as Nature Tots takes place outdoors. You are welcome to bring your own refreshments. Join us for an evening looking for bats (and any other nocturnal creatures) at Lunt Meadows Nature Reserve. Our Bat Walk Night will start with an introduction to these fascinating creatures and the equipment we will be using to detect them before heading out on the reserve for a walk to see if the bats are out and about! Please come dressed for the weather conditions wearing sturdy footwear and bring a torch. Arrive from 8.30pm to collect your hot drink & biscuit ready for a 9pm prompt start for this exciting event. Celebrate the Summer Solstice by joining us for a relaxed campfire session at Lunt Meadows Nature Reserve where will be joined by Museum of Liverpool’s Honorary Curator of Prehistoric Archaeology, Ron Cowell. During the session, Ron will talk about what life was like during the Middle Stone Age, the 9000 year old discoveries we have made at Lunt Meadows so far, and the importance of nature and the solstice to our ancestors. While we sit around the campfire, we will listen to music, roast snacks and enjoy being in nature. Attendees can also have a go at some simple stone age crafts (suitable for all abilities) under the guidance of our staff and volunteers. Refreshments will be provided. All proceeds go to the conservation of the beautiful habitats and wildlife at Lunt Meadows. The terrain is gentle but uneven with areas of long grass. We will meet in the car park at 7.15pm and walk down to our education area. In the event of poor weather, we will relocate indoors to our Learning Centre and we will contact attendees in advance if we do this. At 6pm, before the solstice event, we will also have a yoga session, suitable for all abilities. More information about this can be found here . This session is designed to help teachers and other educators who teach the Stone Age topic. It is delivered by Lancashire Wildlife Trust using resources designed by the Dept. of History and Archaeology at University of Chester. By the end of the session, teachers will have a greater understanding of the middle Stone Age period and be equipped with practical activities and interactive exercises to present the topic to children. Teachers will also gain knowledge about Lunt Meadows and the 9000-year-old Stone Age settlements and artefacts discovered on the reserve. This training will take place indoors and outdoors at Lunt Meadow’s Nature Reserve, but the activities can be adapted to work in classrooms or school grounds. We will meet at the Learning Centre and there is a car park on site. Please bring a packed lunch. Refreshments will be provided. Please wear appropriate footwear (walking boots are recommended) and dress for the weather. This event is part of Lunt Meadow’s Presenting Mesolithic and Modern Life Project, made possible with the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The Presenting Mesolithic and Modern Life Project aims give visitors and the extended community an understanding of how humans have interacted with the landscape over thousands of years, how landscape changes affect human lives and how these choices influence our future. It is a 5-year long partnership between Lancashire Wildlife Trust, the Museum of Liverpool, the Dept. of History and Archaeology, University of Chester, and Soroptimist International Crosby. See behind the scenes at Lunt Meadows Nature Reserve with a guided tour of our dry grassland meadows, learning about the plants within, why habitats like these are so important and how you can have a go at making your own wildflower patch at home. After the walk you will be able to enjoy a bee-themed afternoon tea, designed and catered by Sunshine Tearooms. This will be a lovely chance to see parts of the reserve normally off limits to the public and enjoy some delicious food, provided by Sunshine Tearooms. Hunter gatherers living in the middle stone age - or the Mesolithic period - were masters of their environment. Thanks to artefacts and research we are continuing to discover more about heir fascinating lives, showing they were far from the simple-minded cavemen portrayed in popular culture. Join us at Lunt Meadows on Wednesday 23rd July to learn all about hunter gather life in the middle stone age. There will be opportunities to have a go at making important stone age survival items such as cordage, pendants and fishing nets under the guidance of archaeologists from the University of Chester. There will also be archaeologists who can talk about life in the Stone Age and visitors will have the chance to handle replica artefacts that would have made up a Middle Stone Age hunter-gather's everyday tool kit. This event is suitable for adults and children. Children under 4 are free, but please still select a free ticket for them so we know how many people to expect. As this event is outdoors please dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy outdoor shoes. If you plan on staying on the reserve for a few hours we advise that you bring refreshments. Forest School Family Fun is our new monthly Forest School at Lunt Meadows. Discover, play, be creative and have fun together in our outdoor classroom. Under the guidance of our Forest School leader, we offer the space and freedom to play, explore and connect with the natural environment whilst facilitating fun activities your child may want to join in with, such as nature crafts, scavenger hunts, wood working or scavenger hunts. There is always time at Forest School for a snack and drink too. Our sessions are suitable for children of all ages, who love the outdoors and enjoy nature. Children must be accompanied by an adult with a ticket. Children under 2 are free but must book a ticket. Please come dressed for the weather so your family are comfortable and able to make the most of the experience. Please wear wellies and bring waterproofs. The Lunt Meadows Teddy Bears cordially invite you to a picnic full of furry fun, frolics and feasting. On arrival, make sure to don your teddy bear ears and face paint or mask in our Learning Centre, ready for all the fun. Then we’re going on a bear hunt to our outdoor classroom in the wildflower meadow, where you can prepare a mud pie feast in goldilocks’ café, help find the lost honey pot and create a marvellous musical instrument for the teddy parade. Don’t forget to bring your scrumptious picnic and best teddy friend along for the party. We hope you can join us and look forward to making more teddy friends. Tickets are £9 per child. Accompanying adults and children over 12 enter free, but please still book a ticket then we can keep track of numbers. Please ensure you purchase the correct date/type of your ticket for your Nature Tots session to avoid disappointment. Each session has a different theme and activities include nature art, story time, bug hunts, games, crafts and much more! Please come dressed for the weather wearing sturdy footwear and suitable clothing as Nature Tots takes place outdoors. You are welcome to bring your own refreshments. The cost of each Nature Tots session is £6 or £36 for the half term (7 sessions). Children must be accompanied by an adult (free of charge). The price includes car parking. Car registrations must be given to our Nature Tots staff/volunteers on arrival to each Nature Tots session to receive free car parking.
