Flights to Jeju Island

Introduction

Thinking about having an international vacation in Asia? Let us suggest one that will offer you value for money as well as provide an exciting and memorable time with family or friends. Jeju Island is a unique destination that offers you a peek into the South Korean culture and natural beauty.  Jeju city is the largest and the capital of the Jeju Province of South Korea.

More about Jeju Island

Jeju Island is a volcanic island in the Jeju province in South Korea & lies in the Korean Strait just 64 km south of the Korean Peninsula. The island is formed about 2 million year ago with basalt and lava that flowed due to the volcanic eruptions off the Hallasan volcano. The island is 224 sq km and stretches 73 km from east to west and 41 km from north to south. The island has a unique ecology and remained uncultivated for most for the 21st century due to the lava based soil that makes it difficult to do agriculture. It has wetlands and unique species of fauna & flora.

The island is a world heritage site along with the Lava tubes and is a popular tourist destination among domestic & international tourists being its major source of economy. It is known for its dominant Volcano on South Korea’s tallest mountain, waterfalls, and sandy beaches. Jeju Island has been named as one of the New seven wonders of nature in 2011.

Jeju Island has a moderate climate and the weather is mostly good for travel anytime.

Tip: Check the weather report before coming here. It can get pretty cold and windy on the island hence, you may want to bring your jacket or windcheater.

Reaching Jeju Island

To get to Jeju Island, the best option is to take connecting flights to Jeju Island from any one of the transit points in South Korea and other nearby countries in Asia. The island has its own airport named Jeju International Airport that is located in Jeju City. The international airport is the second-largest in South Korea and operates many flights to mainland South Korean destinations along with international flights to Hong Kong, China, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan and Malaysia. Due to the limited capacity, another airport is getting built-in Seogwipo city and is expected to be operational by 2025.

More than 10 million tourists come here every year via Seoul that is 434 km from Jeju Island. It takes about an hour of travel time if you take direct flights to Jeju Island from Seoul. There are other nonstop flights to Jeju Island from cities like Beijing, Tokyo and Shanghai. Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, Spring Airlines, China Southern Airlines, & China Eastern Airlines are few of the top operators in this sector.

Tip: You can take a taxi to go to any place from the airport. Uber is not available. However, local taxis are economical. Best to avoid buses as they are not frequent and mostly late in arriving.
