Uma semana muito bem passada nos Montes de Charme, com vista soberba da albufeira do Maranhão e da vila de Avis. O sossego, a piscina,a simpatia de todo o staff, proporcionou umas férias repousantes e maravilhosas. O espaço está muito bem cuidado, cheio de detalhes pensados para o bem estar dos hóspedes. Para além de um pequeno almoço magnífico, existe a possibilidade de fazer refeições ligeiras ao almoço e todos os dias um jantar muito bem confeccionado pela Milú. The hotel is located well next to the lake, and the pools are decent. However this is certainly not a 5 star hotel. The rooms are a good size and have good views. Not sure why anyone would pay extra for a lake view room though as all rooms have a view of the lake, just some over the pools. There is a rather disconcerting photo of a bunch of old farmers with pitchforks overlooking the bed which isn’t great. There is an espresso machine, but no milk or sugar anywhere to be seen. The service is the thing that really lets this hotel down. Staff are nice enough although not particularly warm. But the service takes forever. We ordered a beer and cocktail from the pool bar and they said they would bring it to our table. It took 45 minutes to arrive, with no one else in the queue. Each day our food orders would take a huge amount of time to arrive, and once our food arrived after 45 minutes, and our drinks came after an hour. It makes no sense as it wasn’t super busy and there were plenty of serving staff. It is really disappointing as there aren’t many close options around, but even so we felt compelled to drive 25 mins each evening to the nearest town to escape the poor service of the hotel. With a management change and better training, this hotel could be a place I could return to, but I can say here and now that I won’t ever be coming back

We had booked a two-day stay in “Alter do Chão” at the hotel “Vila Galé de Alter do Chão and stayed in the Solar of the hotel. Both the main building and the Solar have an outdoor swimming pool with plenty of sun loungers. The room was very clean and spacious, the beds were comfortable, and we were not bothered by noise from the people at the pool. The breakfast was buffet style and there was more than enough choice, something for everyone. We had booked half board and in the evening this was also in buffet form, for people who want it differently, they can also eat á la carte, which of course can take a little longer. The reception is a bit on the slow side, but all in all not too bad, the staff is super friendly, the only downside is the road from the reception to the Solar, which has no pavement and is very uneven. Result with the high temperature, a lot of dust is stirred up, which can be a problem if you have to walk to the restaurant, and certainly when it rains (5 minutes on foot), there is also more than enough parking space at the solar. This hotel is certainly worth recommending, it has horses and a allot of birds of prey with museum.
