I want to preface this by saying that the staff were wonderful and the hotel was beautiful, but the inaccessibility dampened our stay. Writing this negative review makes me feel really sad. We booked this hotel based on the fact that it had a wheelchair accessible room, but were left disappointed. To begin with, the door to enter the room was not widened so when entering in my wheelchair I kept banging my knuckles. The main issue was the bathroom. Here there was a wider door and a room with a bath and shower. The grab rails on the bath were too low so I couldn’t get in and out of the bath independently. There was no seat in the shower, so I couldn’t use it at all as I can’t stand for long enough. I have never ever seen a wheelchair accessible shower without a seat. The sink was lowered to be at a wheelchair users height but the amenities like the hand soap and the extended wall mirror were not lower, so I couldn’t use them without standing, which as I previously mentioned I can’t do for more than 5-10 minutes before it becomes painful. Because of this shower/bath situation I couldn’t wash independently. My boyfriend had to lift me in and out of the bath. There were grab rails around the toilet but one of them wouldn’t stay up, making manoeuvring to the seat very awkward. Elsewhere in the room, the door frames were scuffed, presumably because they were not wide enough. There was a chise-longue in the room that was blocking me from being able to wheelchair around the room. We also booked a room with a double bed, but were given two single beds pushed together, which is not what we had in mind for a romantic holiday for our anniversary. What has upset me even further is that I was sent a survey after our stay by the hotel and I told them all the above information. I was told that someone would contact me in 3 days to discuss, but I haven’t heard anything. I have emailed the general manager Miguel to discuss what went wrong but I still haven’t had a response. Before this experience I was hoping to visit this hotel with my mum, but there’s no way she could help me to wash in these circumstances . I’m hoping that this review will reopen the dialogue with Melia Barcelona Sky and we can find a resolution.
