Visitors from UK Travelling PCH, we booked the River Inn to enable us to walk the abundant hiking trails, lots of walks close to the hotel. Beds were comfy with a bit of traffic noise inside the room. Breakfast not open until 9am so we ventured along the road and other lovely choices are available. We visited in February and didn't see any chairs in the river maybe the water a tad too cold for softies from this area.

We stayed here in 2023 and were planning on going again. This week, I made a mistake on booking and booked the same day as I was making the reservation. I realized my mistake the day after we were expected to be there. I phoned, explained my mistake and management kindly refunded my money, even they were in no way obligated to do so. I am grateful for their generosity and understanding. We will stay there again!

This is a beautiful place to stay and is perfectly located to explore Big Sur. We were really grateful that they let us check in early and we could park right outside our room. The cabins are comfortable, although the shower was a bit rubbish. Our only major frustration was that the bar / restaurant shut at 8:30pm and is quite expensive. After a day of hiking we were looking forward to a few drinks and a late dinner. It's a shame there was nowhere to do that on site, as everywhere else was a driving distance away.

The atmosphere was quaint and homey with wood fireplaces warming up the chilly May morning. The food and service were excellent. We recommend that you have a restaurant staff member escort you to your car, as the Inn accused us of stealing their pillow. ***? We were NEVER in the Inn that is attached to the same grounds as the restaurant. The Hispanic hotel staff came up to our car to make this accusation, but when we tried to tell them that they were mistaken, suddenly the staff could not speak nor understand English. Even after explaining this to the staff member, she left and then returned with another staff member to make the same accusation and surprise of surprises, the second staff member also suffered from sudden English language loss. So if you want an excellent meal ruined by an arrogant Inn staff member, don't have a restaurant staff member escort you to your vehicle. If the Inn is so hard up that they accuse restaurant patrons of pillow theft, then I feel sorry for them. Especially as their daily room rate is well above the average for rooms in the area.

Quick couple getaway. Room clean and comfortable. Located right next to the Big Sur river, cool to sit in the chairs in the river enjoying a drink! The restaurant was definitely a cut above what you would expect being attached to an inn, great food and drink! Everything very clean with an eye for detail. Also with its own handy general store. Very close to the state parks. What more could you need?!?

Solo trip, I felt safe! Loved the location, clean, comfortable room with very friendly staff at the restaurant. I'm not sure the restaurant is part of the hotel? I arrived at 5:30 pm on a Wednesday. The office was closed but staff hung an information envelope with key on the door. The instructions were very clear and i got into my room without any issues. I felt safe (solo), room was clean. comfortable and just as expected. The rocker on the front porch was great! The convenience store is great with appropriate hours and anything you might need or want. The area is quite lovely and I would definitely consider staying here again.

Stayed here early Aug 2023 with my family of 4 (kids 11 and 8) for 1 night on our way down PCH. We had a nice stay. I don’t think the owners of this place ever had any intention of creating a 5 star luxury hotel, but what they did create is a pleasant, clean, comfortable place to visit in an amazing part of the coast. Had we planned better, we would’ve stayed 2 nights to have more time to relax by the river. We ate dinner and breakfast at the on-site restaurant. Both were quite good. We got some souvenirs and snacks for the road at the general store as well. One small downside was that there was a bit of road noise at night that was noticeable especially with the windows open. Overall this hotel and the area were a highlight of our weeklong road trip down the coast.

My husband and I spent our honeymoon here and we decided to return for our 44th anniversary. We stayed in one of the suites overlooking the river. These are plain and rustic and could use some updating. The heater in our room looked like it was very old. There is no air conditioning and no in-room refrigeration, which was a little difficult since I must travel with medication that requires it. But the restaurant and bar staff were very good about providing ice whenever I asked. In fact, all the staff were always pleasant and helpful. The bed and pillows in our room were great. You can't beat the location with great hiking and other attractions within a few minutes drive. We made sure to stay through Sunday so we could enjoy the weekly live music and barbeque on the Inn's lovely lawn along a very peaceful river. The grounds and gardens are lovely.
