A Disappointing Lack of Service at The Ritz-Carlton, Boston

I’ve stayed at many Ritz-Carlton properties worldwide and have always appreciated the brand’s hallmark of attentive, gracious service. Unfortunately, my experience at the Boston location fell far below that standard—specifically in the Executive Lounge.
From the moment my family arrived, we were greeted by two staff members: a young man at the front desk and a woman (whom I’ll refer to as “beehive hair”) who seemed more interested in disappearing into the back kitchen than in acknowledging guests. Neither welcomed us, offered assistance, or checked on us during our entire two‑day stay.
The lounge felt abandoned. When we needed something as basic as a bottle opener, salt and pepper, napkins, or any other simple item, we had to search for it ourselves—like a scavenger hunt. The front desk was frequently unattended, and the beehive‑haired employee would retreat to the kitchen for long stretches, leaving guests to fend for themselves.
For a property that prides itself on luxury and personalized care, this level of neglect was shocking. I don’t expect to be fawned over, but a simple greeting or a genuine “how can I help?” would have gone a long way. Instead, we felt invisible.
I hope this was an isolated lapse, but based on this visit, I cannot recommend the Executive Lounge at The Ritz‑Carlton, Boston. A hotel stay should feel welcoming—not like a self‑service obstacle course. The only person who was helpful and acknowledged us was an older Hispanic lady. She was very attentive . This review doesn’t apply to her.
