Hotels near Parque de Merendas, Cantanhede

A very modern hotel with many facilities. A little out of the way from town centre but set in a more rural/residential area. Exactly what we needed after the hustle and bustle of downtown Coimbra. Excellent breakfast and superb dinner. Very reasonable price for the type of hotel it turned out to be.

On a busy street that feeds one of the main bridges over the Modego River, the hotel is at first intimidating to locate & park at, and unloading luggage. Once inside, the rooms are standard EU class but it is the staff that made the difference for us. Isabel in particular was extremely friendly and helpful with advice- free parking at several spots, free shuttle van, possibly the nicest laundromat in the world (!), and restaurant options. She and the staff were tremendous, so I would recommend a stay there on tour of Portugal. Cheers.

Me at 72 years, accustomed to traditional hotels couldn´t resist to stay here. Looked crazy enough to dare. And it is different. The rooms aka boxes are what was promised, comfortable bed, and a bathroom large enough. Friendly, helpful and engaged people working there. The breakfast was like the rooms, very small. Half size bread etc didn´t match the €6 pricetag. Overall it was a strange but pleasent experience. Very much because of the personal.

Silvia was our receptionist and go-to person. She was truly AMAZING! She is a delightful young lady who was our contact person, greeted us, carried our luggage ( the stairs were a bit difficult for me), called taxis for us, brought extra blankets, prepared breakfast, recommended restaurants and sites in Ciombra…there was nothing she wasn’t available to do. She was always smiling and friendly. While the property is on a large piece of land and is farm like it is NOT in the countryside. It is in a suburban area 10-15 minutes from Coimbra. We were specifically attracted to being in the countryside so this was a disappointment. Even with Apple CarPlay, our gps system, we missed the street several times. The name of the street is not well marked. The property is behind a lovely gate and parking is readily available. This was a plus. Our room was very large ( bedroom, separate living room, bathroom, entry space)and had lovely views overlooking the grounds, the pool and distant mountains. We booked on *********** “ Family Room with Balcony” 441 sq/ft. and stayed Sept 29-Oct.1. The room was stylish and very clean with big windows overlooking the grounds. However there were many flaws. There were no glasses for water in the room, no water provided, no conditioner in the shower, no robes or slippers, only 2 very flat pillows, one set of towels. We were offered use of the communal kitchen but this was not inviting. We were shown the refrigerator and told there was a different shelf designated for each room. Too much like a college dorm or work fridge. We could use the kitchen as we wished but did not avail ourselves. Silvia did immediately bring us an extra duvet when we found the room too cold. She did offer to turn the radiators on but we were afraid we would find it too hot.There was no thermostat for us to control. There were enough outlets for adapters and charging cables. We did not expect USB ports as is common in Portugal.wi-fi was good. The worst was the shower. It’s a beautiful walk in with a rain shower but on the first morning my husband had cold water. I had scalding hot then tepid then cold. And yes…we do know how to turn on and adjust the water. On the second morning we both had COLD showers. The hair dryer was terrible…barely dried my short hair. The room was not serviced. We came back after a long day exploring Coimbra to find an unmade bed and wet towels. So we made the bed and used wet towels… The breakfast, again Silvia was the star, was in a small dark room with a buffet selection on a narrow sideboard. There were decent choices…cheeses, bread and good coffee and scrambled eggs. One table was so close to the sideboard we couldn’t access those foods without being rude. We did take taxis into Coimbra . We thankfully had a hotel address card to show drivers for our return trip. Even with that, both drivers had a difficult time finding the property. Very quiet hotel. Despite the magnificent building, all the staff are very close to the guests and care about their happiness. This time I stayed in a superior room with large windows. The area and direct light of the toilet are all you like. The restaurant offers a balanced buffet, exquisite breakfast and everything you want. Restaurant service and decent breakfast. The reception staff have excellent professionalism and a very friendly attitude. I recommend

This stay in Curia Hotel, was actually in the ir of 2005 i believe. But still in my memories, I remember the grandiosity of the building, the very high floor and the space mixed with stories and te years give you peace just siting, and enjoy the surrenders. Nice services, nice staff, don’t lose de massages options and the restaurant if remember a good experience

A gift for the senses. We thought the hotel concept was fabulous and I don't really agree with renovating the facilities too much, only what is essential, since it would lose charm and increase the price. We consider the current quality/price ratio to be very good. Great choice for the joy of the eyes, for rest and for a walk through the forest, which, together with the climate and the moderate tourist attraction at this time of year (December long weekend), make it a very special place. Shared rooms are an enjoyment for the senses, as we said before, and the rooms, despite any damage they may present, do not leave you indifferent either. And the easy and free parking next to the hotel is another incentive. The staff's attention to any questions or concerns, together with their explanations about the hotel and its history, makes you feel welcome and well treated. Returning is essential.

Hotel located in a quiet area of living surrounded by pinearies, 5 minutes' drive from the beach of Mira, a good location for the rest of the people. The staff was friendly and sympathetic, and they are trying to help, however, it is visible that the hotel does not have enough staff for the number of rooms, at breakfast they cannot rest with the necessary speed, and one day they did not clean the rooms (we reserved 3 rooms). Other days the cleaning consisted of making beds and waste was not discarded. In most time the reception has nobody, because they have to support breakfast or rooms. Several maintenance problems and damage in rooms, moisture infiltration in the building (one of the rooms smells the humidity), and especially the quite dismayed pool area. The sun burned herbs, old sprayers, the pool was not cleaned, and the TV was not ready in one of the rooms. I couldn't rest because during the night there is a constant noise of ventilation, or perhaps washing machines, defeating all the goal of this hotel that is to go to a quiet area. The rooms are modern and the wi-fi works well, but need more investment, staff and maintenance to justify the 4-star category and the price requested.

The staff's attention is quite satisfactory, the hotel is new and the facilities are well-cared and clean, but the images of the SPA are too generous to the reality. The fact that the SPA is in a part building with open air access by a rampa or stairs about 50 metres from the main building makes it unpleasant to use it in rain or cold weather days. A pool that has been locked up for a hotel of this size, deserves a review of the offer. With the hotel in full lotion, the use of the spa facilities is even a disappointment. Breakfast is of good quality and varied in the offer of viver.
