We had three rooms booked at Cedar House for a night but it was immediately clear that these were not acceptable in terms of health or safety and were not fit for purpose. There were seven of us booked into two doubles and a triple room. All rooms were absolutely filthy with zero evidence of having been cleaned. The triple room was supposed to have a double bed and a single bed, which were we led to believe would be on a mezzanine level. It was in fact a small mattress built into the eaves of the roof, accessed via a set of very unsafe stairs with a rope bannister and involving a climb over a roof strut. It was certainly not long enough to call an actual bed and would not fit an adult. There was no airflow as this room was simply a loft space and there was no way out if there had been a fire in the main bedroom. The so-called ‘bathroom’ was cramped into the other side of the roof with a toilet directly facing the ‘single bed.’ There was absolutely zero privacy and a sign in the room saying the shower didn’t work anyway. Similar signs were in all rooms, and when we turned on a shower to see how bad it was it was clear that there was indeed a water issue. There was dog poo at the entrance to the property and the entire place was filthy. Carpets were covered in dirt, dust, crumbs, dead insects. There were extensive large stains all over them and the beds. Patio furniture was rusty and unusable. The ‘swimming pool’ was barely bigger than a hot tub and was dirty with mud and leaves at the bottom. We were offered another room but this was musty, damp and the bed was directly under a roof window about 3 foot square with no cover so you couldn't have slept under it. After being offered a refund over the phone by who we assume to be the property manager, we left and found accommodation elsewhere. The owners have now refused to honour this. They claim that we used a bathroom as there was a wet towel (we were there under 30 minutes and we didn't even unpack. The reason we turned the shower on was to see how bad it was based on the sign in the room). They claim that we were offered five other rooms. This is also untrue. We were offered one alternative room it was also not fit for sleeping in. They also claim that the photos of the property are accurate and they have many good reviews online. This may be the case with some very clever camera angles and leaving out a lot of things - there are certainly no photos of a bed crammed into the eave of a roof or a toilet in another eave for example - but they could not be less reflective of this property overall. Finally they claim that the property is well cared for. This is just not true. It was beyond fiflty by anyone's standards. There are indeed good reviews of this property online and for the life of me I can't understand why, but despite the owners saying there is nothing wrong with it, looking a bit closer at the reviews shows that there are in fact a number of others who have had a similar experience a

We stayed in the Cedar House last weekend and had the most charming and relaxing mini-break. This boutique B&B exceeded our expectations, it has been lived in by the same family for over 40 years and is full of beautifully curated artworks, antiques and of course an open fire.  Our bedroom (Havilland) was designed with the u**ost style and attention to detail; the balcony overlooked 3 acres of beautiful garden containing a small swimming pool, a sauna, many places to sit and relax, and the ancient Cedar tree after which this delightful house was named. Maggie and Chris are natural hosts and served us the finest English breakfast.; we only wish they offered dinner as well. We cant wait to return.

We booked Pavilion room 2 on the advice of the owner. When we arrived the canopy was hanging down and had obviously been like that for sometime. The next morning it had completely come away from its fittings and therefore extremely dangerous. The website definitely gives an extremely different view to that which we encountered. The pool is clean and if you are a very small person you could probably enjoy a bit of a swim. The whole property could do with an upgrade and the owners should certainly sleep on the bed in our room as it was very soft - ladies do not take a dress as no way could it be hung in the wardrobe . Apart from the patio door there is no ventilation and I would not recommend anyone stay in summer as you have no window at all to open for any fresh air at all.The heating was also on full blast! We were moved to the main house (Phantom) which was better, a more comfortable bed, but a worse shower - it took an age to get to any temperature. Breakfast was to be chosen the day before and cooked very well apart from the toast which was to say the most basic budget brown/white we had ever encountered. The experience was certainly not what we had expected after looking at the photographs on the website. That certainly needs updated in order to avoid disappointing future clientele.

Very quiet location. Half Moon Cabin is quite small but fine for a couple . The bathroom looks good but trying to have a shower stood in a sloping bath was not easy . Maybe a large shower would have been more practical

We spent a long weekend at Cedar House which I booked having spoken to the owner re rooms & availability. We were staying in Phantom room in the main house. We were met on arrival by the housekeeper, who seemed a little flustered, as they were obviously very busy. We were shown to our room, given the key & a form for pre ordering breakfast & time of breakfast. The room & bathroom were beautifully decorated & everything available, with a balcony to the back of the house. Hot water did take several minutes to run - we are used to that in an old house! Shower, could perhaps benefit from a pump to improve pressure. At breakfast the following morning, we went down at our chosen time, but their was no one to tell greet us or tell us where to sit, so this caused a bit of awkwardness when the lady serving breakfast came through the serving door. Breakfast was well cooked & of good quality. The grounds are beautiful, but some is private to the house - lovely extras of swimming pool & hot tub (sauna needs to be paid for heating). Our main issue was that we did not get to see or meet the owners during our 3 nights stay - just to say hello & ask how our stay had been would have been lovely. We have stayed at many similar sized B&Bs & the personal welcoming touch of the owners was missing here (It was obvious that the owners were there for some of our stay)

Wonderful warm welcome from the owner Maggie. Olive House was booked and confirmed twice as the two bedroom option but was only set up as one on our arrival. I think this was down to lack of communication between staff, it was rectified quickly by the most amazing housekeeper. Olive House was very clean and the extensive gardens were well kept and beautiful. The only suggestions I could make are to improve quality of tea tray to boutique B and B standard and a box of tissues in room.

3 acres of land in a beautifully manicured garden. Stylish comfortable accommodation. Quiet and secluded. Stayed in Pavilion 4, one of five, so well soundproofed. Great breakfast. Delightful, helpful friendly staff. The owners are charming, made to feel very welcome. The pool is an added bonus much enjoyed as the weather was hot. There’s a sauna too. It’s very near the town. I will definitely go back.

We booked last minute for Easter weekend. The owners could not have been more helpful in trying to accommodate us. The breakfast was fabulous!! We have a coeliac daughter and they had no problem accommodating her with a delicious full English breakfast and toast. Our room was big and clean with tea and coffee with a small balcony Our children had a sleeping zone upstairs next to the bathroom. Only down side was velux had no blind and toilet and shower is only separated by a curtain. - was easily fixed and great for a few days. We will definitely return.

There was no heating in the room/suitewhen we arrived so a member of staff found a small portable electric fan heater to use. On the last day all electricity to the room/suite failed.
