We’d been wanting to try this place for ages and finally decided to give it a go. The food was nice, perhaps not as amazing as we’d been lead to believe from the reviews. I was expecting a lot more of a taste sensation from the glowing reviews but felt it was just an average Sunday dinner. The mash was lovely but the meat, veg and roasties were just ok. I didn’t feel it was the exceptional Sunday dinner I was expecting. I hate peas on a Sunday dinner and hadn’t realised that garden peas would be one of the main veg served alongside the food- my fault for not mentioning it but you don’t often see it and for a slightly higher end place, I just assumed they wouldn’t be on there. Service was reserved but extremely polite, staff were very nice and couldn’t do enough for you. The atmosphere was a little quiet, I think some low background music would have helped. Unfortunately I have a terrible phobia of rats and we saw a huge one in the little garden our table overlooked. It was running about for quite a while, coming up near the door at one point. I’m not for one second doubting the cleanliness of the place as it was very clean and I understand in a garden area in the countryside it could happen easily, but unfortunately due to my fear of them it made quite an impression on me. I don’t mind paying for good food at all, but perhaps because we’d built it up in our mind so much, for the amount we paid and what we had- it wouldn’t be for us again.
