We broke down on the A30 and had to find a place to stay for the night very very last min (10pm) and found Lifton Hall only a few mins away, probably the best breakdown ever. Richard and Rob are the best hosts, the room was perfect and the food was on point. We found our perfect getaway for our future Devon trips. We will definitely go back. Oh and ask Rob about his pottery ❤️

My husband and I total enjoyed our stay. Room was just perfect. Food absolutely delicious. Dealt with allergies brilliantly. Would highly recommend staying and eating here. Staff were so friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back.

My wife had an issue with the quality of her meal which put her off eating all together. When I mentioned it to the chef he seemed very defensive and didn't even apologise & still charged us. Bar hostess was lovely polite & welcoming though. Unfortunately we will not be returning.

Gorgeous afternoon tea at Lifton Hall hotel today. Delicious homemade food of such a high standard which included soup, savouries, sandwiches, scones, cakes and mini deserts. So very impressive. We have had lunch here previously and also stayed in their holiday let and would highly recommend a visit.

We had an afternoon tea which was a gift from our niece. We chose the Farmers afternoon tea which was absolutely delicious. The roasted red pepper and tomato soup was delicious as was the sandwiches, cakes and scone with jam and cream. The lady who served us made us feel most welcome. We will definitely go back. A truly wonderful experience, thank you.

First time we have eaten here for a while and first time in the bar area. Came here with friends for a late 60th birthday celebration. Ambience is excellent, but not the best of welcomes at the bar. A young lady served us with some drinks before we sat down to view the menus but she didn’t really communicate well with us, she was clearly busy but didn’t at any point say I will be with you in a minute. Not a massive issue as after this she was excellent in all aspects of service. The food was excellent, with no complaints from any of us, a couple of us had the sea food medley and the Asian style fish starter, Thai curry and vegetarian chilli were also They also had a rather nice French Merlot by the glass. Slight issue with Birra Moretti on tap, which was a little flat. All in all a really good night, will be back again no doubt.

A big thank you to Richard & Robert for the welcome treats they left us on arrival, what a great place for a family of 12 to book and stay all in one place, we booked a Sunday roast and they brought it through to our kitchen so we could finish it off when we got back and it was a excellent roast dinner everyone enjoyed thank you, the house it’s self was a great place with 6 rooms all with on suites so no one had to wait and a living room if you wanted to get away from the noise and a good base to go out anywhere.

We had a buy-a-gift voucher gifted to us and chose Lifton Hall because it isn't too far away but still felt like we'd gone out for the afternoon. The pub was fairly busy with others doing the same. Our table was laid for our afternoon tea (farmer's plate) and once seated the drinks (a mini bottle of prosecco each) and food arrived. The food was nicely presented and clearly home made. A savoury pasty, a pair of sandwiches - cheese and cucumber with beef, horseradish and tomato and a mug of soup. The pasty was fine, the sandwiches were really fresh and on a lovely grained bread. Horseradish lovely and fiery, offset by the cool slice of tomato. We both found the soup a little odd, nice but not really of any one taste. I think the server said it was blackbean with chilli. It wasn't hot and I could taste lemongrass. I would have preferred a bowl (perhaps a nice rounded french onion soup bowl) as the lumps in the soup were difficult to 'drink' from the mug and there was no spoon to help. It was ok though and we both finished it. The sweet tray was devine. A beautifully light and fluffy plain scone, clotted cream and strawberry jam. Despite being over the border, we ate it in the Cornish fashion! The light fruit cake was tasty and the chocolate nut brownie sublime. We both had coffee which was presented in a cafetiere but it wasn't a great tasting coffee which was a shame as the whole afternoon tea experience was very tasty otherwise. Washed down with the mini prosecco it did us well and I would thoroughly recommend.

I had afternoon tea arranged for me at Lifton Hall as a birthday treat and it was exceptional. Lifton Hall is a unique place and very cosy with low beamed ceilings and comfortable seating. Our table was already laid out for us and we had a warm welcome from Richard who brought our afternoon tea to the table, explaining in detail the selection of savoury and sweet food presented. The sandwiches were fresh and flavoursome and accompanied by a portion of homemade soup. cakes were in abundance (A Bun Dance?) with home made carrot cake, lemon drizzle cake, Portuguese Tarts, scones with clotted cream and jam, a fruit tartlet that exploded with flavours of berries and mint, mini trifle that packed a big punch - all helped along with a bottomless pot of quality tea. I've had tea/coffee, I've had cakes, I've had cream teas that I have enjoyed when I have been out visiting places but Lifton Hall just brought everything together in one creative flavoursome sitting. The bad points? looks like I'll have to go back and do it all again as I don't recall any bad points :) Lifton Hall also does a variety of intriguing foodie evenings and Sunday Brunch and Lunch so I would love to see how this stands up to their amazing afternoon tea offering.
