Haytor Hotel

A wonderful hotel with equally wonderful owners, Jane and John. My wife and I stayed for three nights at the end of April. We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived, to the moment we left. Our room was on the top floor and was very tastefully decorated with a really comfortable (superking I think) bed. The bathroom was immaculate which has, unfortunately, triggered a review of my decorating list. The cooked breakfast was fantastic, used local ingredients and left little room for lunch (or even coffee and cake) during the day. We ate out at a couple of the local restaurants and were back to the hotel by about nine pm each evening. This allowed us the opportunity to have a drink in the very comfortable, well stocked/reasonably priced, bar. On each evening the one or other of the owners, John and Jane, took the time to chat with us and we exchanged various stories. It made us feel that, even just after a day or two, we weren't just 'customers' we were more like friends. My wife had her birthday whilst we were staying and, in addition to the candle in the sausage at breakfast and the chorus of happy birthday, there was a lovely card and some hand made chocolates in our room. It's the little things that make the difference. A few other things that I liked were: The large car park (no door dinging here). The proximity of the hotel to restaurants and the seafront (a ten minute meander). If staying in a suite there is a mini bar that has a small bottle of fresh milk in it every day. Just to finish, and I've thought hard about this, there is nothing I can be critical about - and that's a first. Thank you Jane and John, we hope to see you later in the year.

Super Hotel! Jane and John are wonderful hosts they cant do enough for you. A fantastic choice off breakfast. We had a ground floor room which was great for my husband as his mobility is not,great. we stayed in the same room last year, the room and bathroom have been completely refurbished a very large walk in shower.Jane has great taste! very close to town and wonderful restaurants and you can walk there and you can get a taxi back all at a reasonable cost. We hope to revisit later in the year. Thank you John & Jane.

We stayed at this fantastic hotel April 24. John and Jane are brilliant hosts and immediately made us very welcome. Our room was clean and well furnished. The breakfast great quality and cooked to perfection with plenty of choice. Would throughly recommend a stay here.

Had a lovely two night stay here. Everything about it was top notch, from the wonderful hosts Jane and John(even though a Chelsea supporter!😉), our room, breakfast, location and parking. You have a beautiful home - we will be returning. We must try the Thai next time!😉x

A brilliant but brief one night stay at The Haytor Hotel. From the moment of our arrival John and Jane were exceptional hosts making us feel very welcome. Our room was excellent with plenty of space and nice touches. Breakfast was cooked fresh to order and properly set us up for the day exploring the town! Would highly recommend and we plan to return.

We stayed for 1 night at this gem of a hotel. A wonderful warm welcome from John and Jane. A pot of tea and lemon drizzle cake when we checked in. An easy walk from the hotel into the centre of Torquay, where there are plenty of bars and restaurants. Although we chose to return to the hotel bar where we enjoyed a few glasses of wine with fellow guests! Our room was spacious , warm and immaculately clean. Lovely en-suite with great shower. The breakfast was stunning , all cooked to order and the standard was excellent. As it was Easter weekend we were even treated to a gift of handmade chocolate eggs on our table. Highly recommended, we will definitely return.

If you are looking for somewhere to stay in Torquay don't look any further especially if you want excellent accommodation and a superb breakfast - cooked to order by the lovely Jane and served by the equally lovely John (don't get carried away John by me using lovely for you as well). Think I have lost count of the number of times we have stayed here and it just gets better and better and would not stay anywhere else. The hotel has it's own free parking and is a 5 minute walk to the harbour/seafront and a number of very good restaurants. So don't delay book today.

Second time we came to The Haytor Hotel, this time with friends as we liked it so much first time. Again, Jane and John didn’t disappoint and it’s the little things, like remembering you’d come before and what room we stayed in previous, that makes this place a lovely gem and somewhere we will definitely come back to. The breakfast Jane cooks was terrific. Also liked the bar as a nice way to kick off the evening. Our room was warm and clean (room 6) and had a view over the car park. Thanks again folks.

What a wonderful hotel and fantastic hosts. We stayed for 2nights, John & Jane couldn’t do enough for us. Our room was clean tidy and really cosy, with a bath and great view over the garden. The breakfast service was absolutely brilliant, plenty of choice and more available if you wanted it. We will be returning and booking direct.
