Sassi di Matera Matera|0.11km from Museo Nazionale d'Arte Medievale e Moderna della Basilicata
We wanted to stay in the Matera Sassi district - this hotel was perfect. It started with staff offering to book a car park in the new area of town. It was walkable to the hotel but we chose to take them up on their offer to have a driver pick us up at the car park - 20 euro for 4 adults. The garage is new and was the easiest parking we've ever had in Italy. Hint: if you're driving, use Google maps on your phone instead of the car's nav system to get to the garage. The car system took us to the wrong place and we talked to another couple who had the same experience. When we put in google nav, we got to the garage easily. Check in was easy and very welcoming. We got lots of info and a nice orientation to our rooms. Everyone was telling us ”relax, this is your home now and we will take care of everything” (and they did). Our rooms were lovely, ours even had a sauna in the larger shower. Nice amenities like robes and slippers and cold bottles of water in fridge at no charge. Note that the rooms are carved out of caves so they are on the dark side. I asked for an extra lamp, and it was very promptly brought to our room. Beds were quite comfy. Breakfast was fantastic! Lots of typical Italian foods along with American basics. The coffee was great, and our waitress cheerfully accommodated our requests. Finally, location is perfect - we walked everywhere. Didn't need the car at all during our 2 night visit. All in all a five star experience!

Sassi di Matera
Getting here, or to any hotel nearby, is a bit of an orienteering challenge, but in the end it was a 7 minute walk from one of the more nearby parking spaces. We felt very welcomed by the staff who helped with suggestions for walks, lunch etc. The breakfast included in the price was very good, with a nice mixture of things. We had apparently paid for an upgrade, which, we learned on arrival, meant we would not be staying in a cave room—the main reason we had chosen this hotel. We got our own one-room house next to the hotel. Very nice room with a small balcony and super high ceiling. Still, we had looked forward to staying in a cave room. We appreciated the room amenities with coffee/tea maker, fridge, minibar, AC. It was super quiet and we slept very well.

Hotel in ztl, open to the hotel to find the front desk for 20 dollars valet parking, eliminate ztl records. The hotel facilities are superb, in line with the five-star standard, the 60-minute free spa is super comfortable, you can use the massage pool and two saunas, the breakfast is very good, you can see the chef is very attentive. The room is very characteristic and not at all. The hotel is the best photo point to climb up to the opposite rock church for five minutes, behind the church is the ancient cave.

With No Time To Die pending an April 2020 release date those wanting to get into the action may want to check out this hotel as the perfect base - five minutes from the Tower and Duomo and the incredible motorbike stunt and ten minutes from the car chase locations and that of the square seen at the end of trailer one. Incredibly clean, comfortable with friendly staff with a great breakfast (amazing coffee!) the Albergo seems to appear from inside a church. Terrific location. Those hoping to see the Ponte Aquedotto (the bridge leapt from at the start of the cat chase) will need to travel 20mins to Gravina in Puglia, a nearby town. Don't go on Monday as most everything is closed. Costing approx 70 euro by taxi or 5 euro by bus (six buses a day and six return) the bridge can be seen in a morning so suggest basing in Matera and a 3 -4 he trip to Gravina. Overall this hotel is perfect for those wanting to see the film locations - 10/10 for cleanliness, comfort and friendliness. A score worthy of 007 himself.
La Suite Matera Hotel & Spa

We had a wonderful time at La Suite. It was a last minute switch from a luxury hotel too far out of town. We were so lucky to have found la Suite. It was a great location just off the pedestrian area, easy to walk anywhere, the Sassi entry points and the many good restaurants in Matera. Particularly handy in the recurrent rain we faced. The staff were very friendly and helpful in suggesting restaurants etc. Its a great base in Matera. Only hiccup was a bit slow breakfast on the last day when they didn't have many guests and everyhing had to be pre-ordered and a slight miscommunication on the laundry - it showed up finally. All in all a lovely place.

The rooms in cave are so cool….literally. Even though I was a single – my room was huge – big entry into a “living” space and small kitchen, up (and down) a couple of steps to a bathroom in the rear then upstairs to a very large bedroom – all high-ceilings. I had two comfortable chairs in the bedroom if I chose to sit and read. But none on the lower level. The bedroom had the most amazing views of Matera. I also had a door which exited to a small landing with stairs to ground level. There is no air conditioning, but the night cools down and a quiet fan is provided. One negative is the bathroom is downstairs, and one has to be careful because there are quite a few stairs. It would not be appropriate for anyone with mobility issues. There also are stairs up then down into the bathroom and light is not great. I used my phone flashlight a few times. Yet, the bathroom is large with place for toiletries and a sizable shower. I was with friends and everyone had a different configuration, so you’d have to read the other reviews go get a sense of the spaces. I used the kitchen for coffee (coffee is provided) but the hotel has a lovely breakfast buffet of fresh fruit, pastries, eggs and whatever you want. It is more than enough to get you up those stairs. Oh, did I mention that to get to the main streets of Matera, you have to climb 81 stairs…there is a short cut – 63 stairs. (You don’t have to drag your suitcases up or down. There are bellman to take you up. I would imagine if you had problems with the stairs, they could drive you up to the main part of town. Check with the hotel.) And, one particular irritant…..for some reason, the town youth congregated right outside the plaza of the hotel. I actually had to wade through about 20 boys to get through to my door. At first, I was a little apprehensive, but they are polite and move aside. But, they are noisy. However, there must be a curfew. At 11:30 – they disappeared. Still, it is disconcerting. Service is very good. Found all Italians in the service industry to be polite.

Magical location in a magical city. Spectacular view from our room across the valley to the cave-filled hillside. It was quiet at night even though close to several tourist attractions. The room, built into an existing cave, was very comfortable and attractive. The staff were very helpful, especially Roberto who gave us excellent ideas for how to explore the city. You can’t park anywhere in the old city of Matera, but the hotel picked us up at the parking garage - just a 5 or 10 minute wait.
