Umbral, a Curio Collection by Hilton

Centro Historico Mexico City|0.84km from Capilla de la Concepcion
This lovely gem is right in the heart of the city! The interior hallways are sleek and modern while homage to a historic past. The building is a former law office and the interior is a classic courtyard presentation. The restaurants and bar are on the roof top, which is the 5th floor. My room was on the street side and I got an upgrade due to my Hilton status, so I had this huge suite on the 4th floor with incredible views of the interior when I opened my door. The bathroom was roomy and spacious. The shower was huge with both a hand held and a shower rainfall option. I had dual sinks and the lotion and other amenities were very nice. The bed was comfy, the windows could open and there were many lighting options. There was bedside lighting, overhead lighting and more. It was quite amazing! The bedroom was all white and quite bright. My ”living room” was dark, but had so many additional lighting options, plus the record player, TV, and the bright window for when the curtains were open. The sliding door between the 2 rooms was perfect. And, I had not only a desk with hand sanitizer, but also a small dining table with 2 chairs in my ”living room”. It was a heavenly stay. Now, the pool was tiny, but the hot tub was lovely and the cocktails were nice! Breakfast at Oliva was included for me and was delicious. The other restaurant on the rooftop, Paixa Do was also quite amazing. Creative food and a gorgeous view with excellent service and a great wine selection. What else? The front desk staff and bellmen were lovely. The concierge was a little odd to me, so I ignored him after the first day. It was easy to take an Uber from my hotel and the Uber was very cheap in US $. Within walking distance were a few Sanbornes, a money exchange place, and some nice restaurants. I totally would return here again. It was my fifth trip to Mexico City in the last 15-20 years and I've stayed only in 1 other place twice. Again, this is a fantastic place to stay...I almost forgot to mention the private movie theater upstairs, the art gallery and the records (vinyl LPs) that one could take and play on bluetooth speakers in your room! What a treat!

Holiday Inn Buenavista, an IHG Hotel

Santa Maria la Ribera Mexico City|2.27km from Capilla de la Concepcion
The hotel is very modern and clean, it has TVs that you can cast Netflix etc from your phone on. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful. It is in a nice location and I felt safe in the area and the hotel without my husband and with three small children. There is a mall and Walmart within walking distance and there are no problems getting an Uber taxi or food delivered. It’s easy and cheap to get around to the main sites. The negatives are they don’t have fridges in the rooms, ice is available but they give it to you in a plastic bag rather than an ice bucket. We needed the ice to keep baby bottles cool, our plug on the sink didn’t close and we had nothing else to put them in. The second negative is that the cleaners keep taking the spare room keys from the slot by the door even if you haven’t pushed it down to activate the lights when you are out it will be taken. The third negative is about the Starbucks at the hotel. There is a young man who works there and he just couldn’t get the orders right, I went there three times he was working and each one of those drinks were incorrect. It really annoyed me that he would would then strongly push for a tip when he isn’t great at his job. The one day my 4 year old ordered a strawberries and cream Frappuccino and he got served a small cappuccino! The last negative is that the a/c is terrible, it doesn’t get very cold but makes the air quality terrible. Our noses were all dried out and cut by the time we left.

Cadillac Hotel Boutique

Mexico City|0.23km from Capilla de la Concepcion
On December 15, 2020, this beautiful boutique hotel located in the Historic Center opened its doors. It is located a few blocks from Bellas Artes, Chinatown and the Zócalo. Cadillac Hotel is a blend of art, comfort and luxury. With a unique concept and exalting great Mexican figures through beautiful murals where we can appreciate stars of Mexican gold cinema such as María Felix, Tin Tan, Cantinflas, Pedro Infante and other celebrities such as Juan Gabriel, Frida Kahlo, Blue Demon, among others. It has been one of my favorite boutique hotels in the city so far. They have 50 rooms and each of them with a unique style, most have a beautiful mirror with the figure of Mexico City and vinyl with emblematic monuments such as the Angel of Independence and Mexican characters. You can find capsule type bedside rooms for those backpacker travelers who loved the glamor, comfort and above all safety. Even VIP rooms with jacuzzi or pool. We stayed in the Hide Away Pool Suite, one of their best suites that has a private terrace with a heated pool and a beautiful view of the city. It has a desk, a minibar with drinks, a very spacious private bathroom, a King Size bed and wardrobe, a hair dryer, an Alexa device, automated blackout curtains and lighting with different environments. The restaurant terrace has a wide and delicious selection of Mexican dishes with a chic twist. At the Las Hamacas bar, you can spend a very pleasant time having something with friends, open to the general public. And there is also the María café where you can find delicious shells with a warm latte. The service was the best, always friendly and with a big smile. You definitely won't find a better place to stay. Inside my top 3.

The quality of this hotel has shocked me, it looked exactly like in the photos. It was new, clean, very modern and everything was immaculate. Our room was thoroughly cleaned every day and the cleaning lady did an amazing job, was very friendly and spoke good english so we could ask about extra bottled water when it was finished or soap etc. The location of the hotel could be a bit better but tbh it did not bother us that much as we like to walk, and it was like a 10 minute walk to Alameda Park, and maybe 20 minute walk to Zocalo, the only problem was that when we were coming back in the evening the road could get a bit sketchy, but nothing ever happened to us, just be careful and come back to the hotel before it gets very dark. The breakfast was amazing! I loved the fact that there were many Mexican options so that we could try some local cuisine, and every day the options changed so you would not get bored. The only and biggest downside of this hotel however was music in the hallway. And I would easily grant them a 5/5 rating but I can’t simply because of this issue. So they basically play music in the hallway and they play it quite loudly while the walls of the room are thin so imagine being woken up by the music at 8AM or not being able to take a nap during the day or even fall asleep in the evening because the music keeps playing. I have talked to the receptionists several times about this issue and every time they told me it was company policy to have music in the hallway and that they could not turn if off but they turned it down a bit which helped but then in the morning the receptionist changed and once again turned it up. It was extremely frustrating, this hotel was so amazing but my stay was a little bit ruined by this issue as there were many times when I could not fall asleep or when I would get woken up by the music. So overall this hotel delivered great value for money, it was clean, safe and had an amazing breakfast but they have to do something about that music policy because it really ruins the stay.

Excellent location for shopping. Good attention, it has its own parking lot shared with a public one. Just one detail: a lot of noise from guests entering and leaving. I don't know if it's a lot of echo in the corridors or that the administration asks the guests to be quiet, but they don't let them sleep.

Very clean hostel and great facilities. Most evenings there’s events at the hostel like karaoke or movie nights. Or if that’s not for you there’s loads of great bars and clubs nearby. The hostel provides free tours around the city. Jair took my group on a cycling tour and a trip via the subway to Coyacan. He speaks great English, knows everything about the city and is fun to have a joke with. Deserves all the tips.

The housing of this hostel is really poor. The quadruple room I booked has a bathroom. The house is so small that two people can't stand down and have no windows. One morning I went out and returned to the room. It ran out of foul smell, the room had no air-conditioning, only one fan was on for 24 hours, and there was only a small pillow on the bed without a sleeping cover. There is no free breakfast and water drinks, and there is a paid restaurant on the ground floor. The hostel is also easily accessible by subway and public buses.
