The Plough Inn

Delightful country inn lying at the heart of the Surrey Hills with friendly and welcoming staff, pleasant rooms, great food and fine beer. A two-night stay wasn't long enough to explore the surrounding area and we will certainly be back. Convenient for Gatwick Airport too.

Stayed here for a wedding since there aren't too many places in the area. Our room stank of cigarette smoke and dog. Decor tired and in much need of a refresh. Curtain was hanging off the rail. Bags of dirty laundry piled up in the hall. Could do with a good clean.

Wow! ‘Surrey’s Secret Gem’ We loved every minute of our stay at The Plough Inn. Excellent service, friendly staff & delicious food! We had an amazing weekend & we’ll most definitely be coming back. A big thank you to all the staff for wonderful weekend. With much appreciation, Mr & Mrs H.

A very warm welcome awaited us at the Plough and dinner was gorgeous with a fine selection of local ales - including some made at the pub’s own brewery out back. As we were staying we also had a splendid Sunday lunch before walking it off on a trip up to Leith Hill tower. A great base for exploring the local area on foot or bike.

Stayed here overnight before Gatwick flight. Very pretty and quiet location with narrow, winding, practically single track road from Dorking. All the staff we met were friendly and efficient. Pleasant welcome and as all rooms are up on outside staircase we were helped with luggage. Evening meal in pub was very nice and good atmosphere. Breakfast was also of good quality though practically all hot dishes without any fruit or cereal options. The whole place appears to have been fairly recently refurbished. It’s starting to show signs of wear but is still very tasteful. Bed was comfortable though we would have liked more pillows. The bath towels were also of nice quality. We enjoyed our stay and thought it was good value. However, we felt the following small improvements would really elevate the experience for little cost: 1) the heating was not on when we arrived. Staff turned it on promptly when asked but it made for an unwelcome start. 2) housekeeping needed more attention. It was not dirty but there was paper on table from previous guest, empty shampoo bottle (we assume left by guest in shower), only 1 tea bag and dirty & dangerously cracked cups. The nice quality curtains were partially hanging off the rail. This gave an unkempt appearance and only needs a few pennies spending on plastic clips. Note- There were no shampoo, conditioner or body wash supplied so ensure you pack some (unless this too was an oversight of housekeeping as there was, somewhat randomly, 3 bottles of body lotion supplied!). The cups/heating were cheerfully sorted by staff but it would have been nice not to have had to address them. 3) Our biggest issues were WiFi and the shower. Wifi was non existent in the bedroom. It was strong in the pub but not having it working adequately in our room, is a major issue in this day and age. Our evening shower was lovely and warm but there was no hot water for a 7.30am shower - which was an unpleasant start for one of us! 4) We also emailed a couple of questions twice ahead of our visit but never received a reply. It was not a big issue but given the great customer service we received while at The Plough it is surprising (and had circumstances been different, it may have caused us to book elsewhere).

A lovely place to get away, We only overnighted here, but we will be back. Very professional and friendly staff. Close to Gatwick but felt as if it was in some quite haven.

Peaceful setting, clean and comfortable rooms, good restaurant and an excellent breakfast. Members of my family stayed there for my son’s wedding and were made to feel most welcome. The staff were an absolute delight too! I would be delighted to stay there again.

This was a lovely Inn, very pleasant and helpful staff, we arrived at midday and was able to check in straight way as rooms were ready, normal check in 3pm. The rooms were a little on the small side but adequate. The curtains in our room were hanging off the rail just needed some hooks. The wardrobe door did not stay shut but a convenient side table was placed there to keep it shut. The towel rail in the bathroom was not working, and when we had a shower it was not draining away so overflowed out onto the bathroom floor. The outside of the property looks a little tired, in need of a lick of paint. We had dinner there but 4 of the mains were unavailable as sold out earlier in the day, there was also no cheese for the cheeseboard option in desserts, but what we had very was very good. Steaks were cooked just as requested. overall we had a pleasant stay.

I'm really surprised by the reviews. I did not have a great experience. The Plough in is situated in a beautiful place . I drove from Devon and had been on the road for 5 hours. When I finally got there, I was looking forward to staying in a cosy room and enjoying a nice pub lunch and a Guinness.Well, none of that happened When I was eventually taken to my room after a few check-in issues with problems with the laptop and being told they don't serve food on a Sunday, I was slightly gutted. I had a bad feeling when I got to the top of the stairs whilst being taken to my room as thr entrance was a mess so my first impressions were that my room was probably not great.The guy who took me to my room said 'excuse the mess' He left straight away when we got to the door and straight away I was dissapointed at the level of cleanliness,stains on the walls and spillages on thr bathroom floor,public hair in my bed,dust,it was not cleaned properly,I dont even think the bedding was changed. I left straight away to find somewhere to eat,it was dark by then and flooding in places.I found the closest restaurant in which was fully booked so carried on driving until I ended up in the town. I broke down in tears to my fiancé about the cleanliness, and I told him I was going to sleep in the car that night. I was just too upset by this point to want to speak to anyone,especially after a 5 hour journey and wanting to relax and enjoy a meal He then phoned the hotel and told them about the room in which the guy he spoke to was apologetic and then said he would look for another room and phone him back in 5 minutes. He didn't phone back in 5 mins, so my partner ended up phoning him back in which he replied with we have a room,we were just rushing around cleaning it over again. Why would you have to go over a room that has already been cleaned?! I got back to the pub and went to the bar where a guy showed me to my new room,it was cleaner,but why the dirty bin in the corner of the room?lots of old cobwebs in the bathroom. I clearly don't think the manager knows what standard of cleanliness the rooms should be. It's such a shame as it's a lovely looking pub in a beautiful area. Fortunately, I had my sleeping bag in the car!
