There were only 3 things that redeemed this place from a “Terrible” review; 1 Chef in the bistro produced a really good feed at a reasonable price 2 location - straight across the road from the train station, close to shops and it has an epic, independent Craft Beer Brewery in the cellar 😎 3 Sheets & towels wee clean and fresh The room on the other hand was dreadful and other than a queen bed, a big flat screen TV, a small desk/chair and a kettle there wasn’t much else with nowhere to hang anything, sticky, threadbare carpet, thin “boney” mattress and a small bookshelf leaning drunkenly against the wall for support. A hole in the carpet marked where the bedside cabinetry used to be, which had been replaced by a small, noisy and battered bar fridge and a large air grill in the door let in bright light and all the noise from the corridor outside through the night. The cleaner started early, they dragged their mop bucket down the hallway past my room and into the room next door and filled the bucket from a tap right behind my head, so I was well awake by 6.30 ish on a Saturday morning 😠 Access to the room was flat and level as long as the pub was open but after closing is was via a couple of flights of steep narrow stairs, no fun with luggage and impossible for the elderly or disabled. As for the pub itself, I’ll leave it to you why some locals I met since call if “Fight Club”!
