My daughter Booked the Country Cottage at Ruddington for Christmas Dinner for 12 Family members,it was the 11 month on the date my Wife Edith died whilst we were abroad. My Family live and work not always in the Nottingham area so it was an occasion for all to be together. On arrival we were told the bar took only card payments not cash. Some guests wanted Gin and tonic' but tonic was unavailable As we all entered the Dining room we complained about the coldness of the room the Manager bought in a small Dimplex heater assuring us the heating had been on. Bearing in mind there were 12 of us we were put on 2 large tables ,my daughter sat on the end of one to make more room for us all, we were in the corner of the room,- which at the end there was a large window with a bus stop outside so when the bus unloaded it's passengers we had people staring through the windows. The Christmas meal was served which took approximately 15/ 20 minutes quite nice no complaints really about the food apart from it could have been a little hotter..Coffee was served a bit mixed up but generally OK. The Restaurant itself was quite large, bearing in mind it was a Christmas meal there was one Christmas tree no other decorations balloons or Christmas Crackers whatsoever and the lighting was very dull.On enquiring about the Crackers which you all know get the party spirits going, I,e wearing funny hats and telling funny jokes I was told that they had a Green Policy and the Crackers were not eco friendly,! Yes I did go and see the Manager in private no one else about, to pay the bill ,and he asked me if everything was OK and I told him no I told him I was very disappointed with the general organisation of the meal and the decor Neither my family or public were around, there was just myself and the manager which was amicable. He told me he was very sorry and what could he do to put it right, bit late really but he did deduct the price of the coffee. I did make contact with the owner and complained, she did ask me what she could have done better and I said I thought that was obvious, we had water jugs on the table I did enquire what the other glasses were for but we were never shown a wine list I appreciate times are hard and costs are high but in a competitive world the customer is your business your future,. As an aside this Restaurant catered for an occasion for 65 to 75 people celebrating the life of my Wife who had recently died. It was organised brilliantly this is why we went back for a Christmas Dinner.
