My husband and I travel to Athens 2-5 times a year - him for business, me tagging along for pleasure. We usually stay at the GB, but this time Athenian hotels were jammed - with sky high prices. Hence, I was tasked with finding another place near Syntagma Square. The Social Hotel was in a perfect location (Kolonaki) and had glowing reviews on TripAdvisor. Although totally different in size and decor, I closed my eyes and booked. What an eye-opening surprise to find this gem of a hotel! The Social Hotel is a marvel of good industrial design and clever, CLEAN, interior decoration. Although the rooms are smallish by American standards, you want for nothing. We booked a Social Suite for our first week so my husband could work in a separate room (area). I was concerned when we could only get a single room for the second week but this was not a problem. Even with an ironing board I had sent up, the room design and size worked just fine. The best part of this hotel, however, is the staff. As others have commented, and I concur, they are amazing. EVERYONE of them is thoughtful, kind, helpful, funny and efficient to a fault. EVERYONE - the fabulous ladies at the front desk, their gentlemen counterparts, the food service staff, the housekeepers…even the handyman(?) riding up in the elevator. Each person is concerned for your well being and wants you to enjoy “their” hotel. Lastly, the location is perfect for business or pleasure. Although Kolonaki is right next to Constitution Square (the heart of the city) it is a wonderful residential area filled with upscale shops and restaurants…and other essential sites for a long stay - like a great supermarket around the corner…and the Hondos center, in case you forget your toothbrush. Staying at the Social Hotel makes you feel like you have your own apartment in one of the best neighborhoods in town.
