We had three nights here. It is in a fantastic position above the river and the ghats below. Our room was in a small courtyard and was spacious with a good bed, bathroom and a recess with a large window looking across the river. No refrigerator but we had got used to that staying in characterful properties in relatively off the beaten track locations. The gardens are beautiful to wander through with their own small animals and vegetable growing. Pool was very welcome. Only slight ****** was that whilst the the food was plentiful and the fixed menu is served Thali-style with a number of items that provide choice, it was on the bland side. They don't sell alcohol but will serve yours without any issue. Not cheap but definitely worth the experience.

Ahliya Fort is the most lovely place we have ever stayed. The service was wonderful from beginning to end. Discrete but attentive is probably the best description. The hotel is full board which included all meals plus afternoon tea and pre-dinner cocktails. One day when we were out for lunch we were dispatched with a huge and delicious packed lunch . Another evening we went out on the hotel boat at sunset and floated candles down the river! During the day the staff seemed to keep an eye out for who seemed to be talking to who and we were sat together at dinner. The company of the other guests was as enjoyable as the hotel itself. Maheshwar also has some beautiful spots and we enjoyed walking around, visiting the silk factory and local temples. A huge thank you to every single person in the hotel from the wonderful managers to the waiters and the security guards. Everyone greeted us (and each other) with a smile. Such a lovely stay. Thank you !

This was the most wonderful place! I stayed there a few months ago and still wish I was there. Our room was beautiful and overlooked the garden where much of our food was grown, the staff was wonderful, and the locale just about perfect. Can't say enough good things--a magical stay.

The room was unacceptable: The bathroom had entrance with a step and you had to lower your head to enter, since the enter opening was very low. Bathroom had one sink . The shower was so bad that the whole bathroom became wet after a shower. The room smelled. It seems like 50 ties design. After we complained they offered another room but still with issues. A slightly better room was Rs 14,000 more per day. Don’t plan to revisit

We stayed here in March at the end of a 5 week trip to India, mainly to see Tigers, but also to see the sights. When we arrived we were greeted by the staff who presented us with cool drinks and garlands of marigolds. We saw our room and nearly fell over, it was the Narmada suite overlooking the river and ghats below, with all sorts of luxury touches including a Nespresso machine. The balcony was a perfect way to view beautiful sunrises and sunsets. We met Prince Richard who was interested in some family history/ graveyard hunting we had done in Indore - trying to find graves of my mothers relatives in one of the earliest British graveyards in Indore. We were treated to the most delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners, all part of the package. Whilst the Fort has no alcohol, staff would procure you wine/beer or whatever you wanted to drink with meals, no doubt from town, so it wasn't a problem if you wanted a drink, just required a little advance planning. The fort offers some interesting tours which we did - sunset on the Narmada river, travelling out to the Temple at "the centre of the universe" in the river. You could get off and see the temple as well. The boat men performed a floating candle ceremony for us which was beautiful. We went to the villages across the river and a guide was arranged for us - the son of someone who works at Fort, he was not at school that day - he took us around, showed us the temple, weaving households where we were invited in and walked to another village where we caught the boat back to the Fort. We did another river tour one afternoon which was scenic and relaxing and where refreshments were provided and another candle ceremony performed. Our Tour operator had arranged for a guide / driver so we went to Mandu one day - very interesting old/ancient city and with some immaculately maintained gardens. Another afternoon we had a tour of Maheshwar - temples and towns. Its a sacred place and is on a pilgrimage route. We had massages, swims in the pool and enjoyed the ambience of the Ahilya Fort grounds. Perfect way to finish our trip.

We were allotted the Hawa Bangla room with a panoramic view of the Narmada. My wife almost refused to step out anywhere. The food was awesome and sumptuous - lunch was continental and dinner Indian. It was served at a different location every day. We stayed 3 nights. They do a nice mocktails service every evening at 7 pm ***** with some snacks. The charges include laundry too. Pallav Pahuja as hospitality manager was caring. Emme the elderly American lady was cute and attentive. Oscar the intern from US was interesting to talk to. Kunta Bai the matriarch almost became our friend. They do get many guests from overseas and they are geared to handle their needs well. The fort has a wonderful Shiva temple where 10000 lingas are prayed to daily. We participated in one such Pooja. For us it was a once in a lifetime experience. We covered Mandu from there and the experience was awesome.

A lovely getaway from the humdrum busyness of everyday! A nice location on Narmada banks filled with history. Offers interesting experiences - A wonderful sunrise boat ride to the submerged Baneshwar temple, a visit to see the local weaves in the making at Rehwa, delightful evenings lit up amidst greenery with innovative mock tails and meals at multiple locations across the property. A great farm to table with fresh produce at every meal. A melodious evening Arti to compound the serene and peaceful experience.
