Hampton Inn & Suites San Clemente

The thermostat didn’t work, I assumed that was the reason for extra fans in the room.

The staff were nice and everything was very clean. I just didn't like that I paid for my room through ******* and then I get there to find out I have to pay more for a hotel fee, a parking fee and a pet fee. I had to park outside since there was no more space in the parking structure but I still had to pay the parking fee. The breakfast did not taste good, the egg omelettes and potatoes did not taste good. So I grabbed a bagel and tea and that was good. The elevators don't say the correct floor number.

We paid extra because of the holiday weekend. Got to our room and there was a couple obnoxious fans blowing because apparently the ac was out but they failed to tell us that. Room got up to 80 degrees. Maintenance was supposed to come and never did. Housekeeping the next day came to the door to clean as we were leaving and said they would come right back but never did. So our room was dirty and no towels all weekend. Room appeared to not have been cleaned well before we got there as we kept finding trash everywhere. So needless to say, we won’t be going back.

Front desk staff was horrendous (Maritza) my son was afraid to go downstairs because of the way she treated people. I heard this from 4 other guests as well during my stay. Also, the elevator lights on top of the door don’t match the floors. I helped a few people understand how it worked. No front desk staff explained it during check in.

We had reserved a room with two queen beds. We went to our room to find a swamp cooler next to the TV and a large fan near the entry. The AC in the room was not functional. The swamp cooler was loud and largely ineffective. We went to the front desk to get another room. The desk clerk told us that no other two queen rooms were available (nor kings). The best she could do was two doubles. As I’m 6’4” a double is about a foot short, so I asked for a refund. The clerk told us that was impossible, since we booked through *******. Excellent… So we took the two double room. It was OK, except there was no hot water in the basin - when you moved the handle to the hot side, it just shut off. The faucet was also too small for the basin and the spout only overhung the edge of the sink by about an inch. I will not be returning.

The staff is absolutely incapable of understanding hospitality. They over sell their parking spaces and when you cannot find one they tell you there is nothing that they can do about it. Daytime staff is much more competent than the nighttime.

We stayed for the weekend for a wedding and the first night our airconditioning did not work (it was 80F in the room), we mentioned it to the front desk and they said that their maintenance people were out for the rest of the day and would be up first thing in the morning. At first, I figured we had a fan in there and we’d be fine but the longer we stayed in there the more humid and hot it got (and also realized the tv in our room didn’t work either) So we went down and asked again if there was a different room or something they could do and they said we could wait until 11pm (when their next party would be checking in) to see if their last room was still open or wait until morning to switch to a different room. We ended up not getting a new room until around noon the next day. The front desk people both at night and the next day told us we would get some type of refund and get our parking covered but I have yet to see any type of discount and still paid for parking…

The worst thing about the property is if you are going to be late if you are traveling from far and do not get there before check-in sometime that night, they will cancel the rest of your reservation and charge you for the one night. You will show up and not have a room. I know because that’s exactly what happened to me. Nothing against the staff, hotel manager and front desk or extremely apologetic and helpful but it’s definitely a policy. They should change if room is prepaid. Room was paid, but they did just charge the one night deemed it a no-show and refunded the next day.
