First the good part...Banjara Retreat is in the middle of fruit, particularly apple, belt of Himachal. The property and entire surrounding area is full of fruit trees. At the end of May, the apples were tiny but cherries were ripe for plucking. The region also grows plums, pears and apricot. The property itself is well maintained with clean rooms, each with a different character. The food is excellent...not too spicy, yet tasty. The open areas of the property is small but that is to be expected in the hills. On the downside, the service was indifferent. A few of the staff including the ***ager was helpful but at times it felt like they were running a boarding school. Did not clean our rooms and then told us it can't be done after 4PM. They never asked for the keys to clean in the first place. Similarly we were told that the activity room can only be used until 1030 even though there is nothing else to do and weather was bad. Finally, we were keen to experience plucking a few cherries and were willing to pay for it but they almost don't allow access to the cherries and didn't take us on the orchard tour. They did cherries for the breakfast from the property though and they were delicious.
