The location was amazing next to metro and 1 stop away from city center ndk. The hotel is great value for price you pay, do not expect luxury, the rooms are good and has all basic amenities. Down side fridge did not work and I had to ask reception to give me hair dryer as there was only one in entire hotel. My room was on 17th floor great views. I had breakfast on one day and it was good but I would recommend to go to city center to have bf for that money. I would come back again just for the price and location. Lifts were pretty fast hardly had to wait at all. The staff were very friendly as well and all speak English.

It is a very beautiful hotel inside out. What does not make this hotel great is the poor service of at least two sections of the hotel from my personal experience. Number one disappointment is the Beauty Salon. I made an appointment for meniscus at 16:30 on September 22. I showed up on time only to be told by the receptionist that the appointment is at 16:45. I told her that is not true and in fact I confirmed it with her twice. It was apparent that someone cut into the line and from our conversation I know she knew it as well. Yet, she was lying through her teeth that is totally beyond me. The worst was yet to come, I was told when I came down again at 16:45, I had to wait for another 20 minutes. That is the end of the story. Second incident is at the “well known” restaurant Mediterra. To make a long story shot, the Greek style calamari I ordered looked as well as tasted like burned wood log. To the main course “beef cheeks” the only thing I could think about it is what I once tasted on a Lufthansa flight business class section is 10 times better.
Other than that I had a very pleasant stay and the receptionists are extremely friendly and helpful. I should also add the location of the hotel is very convenient and has easy access to all the main attractions.

Facilities: Standard chain hotel facilities, the room is large and can be pushed into a stroller.
Hygiene: The bathroom is large and clean. But the toilet is very close to the wall, which makes it inconvenient every time I use it.
Environment: We were arranged in a room facing the elevator. At night, we could hear the sound of the elevator and the sound of others walking by, which was a bit disturbing.
There is a huge pillar in the middle of the house, which takes up a lot of space and makes the house look very strange.
Service: It's average. I booked a standard room, about 100€ per night. I don't know if it's because it's the cheapest room? So it faces the elevator and there is a huge pillar in the middle of the room? ?

We stayed here because our flight arrived late night and shuttle bus came to the sofia airport after calling the hotel. We prefer to get the shuttle bus without calling (ex. it's better if we can call the bus by app or text etc). However, the driver and all staff were really nice and friendly.
Our train was very early morning so we asked the hotel to prepare our breakfast and it was really good! Thank you.
Our room didn't have bathroom rug.

GGuest UserPros: The hotel design is very modern and clean. The staff are nice and friendly and do everything they can to help you. This hotel is big on sustainability. They don't leave plastic bottles in your room. Instead, you have glass bottles that you can fill up everywhere in the hotel. Every floor has a drinking fountain where you can fill up your bottle.
The food was absolutely amazing. Breakfast is not a buffet. On weekdays, you have to choose between a Bulgarian or a French breakfast. At first, I was disappointed that they didn't have a simple option like an omelet; I went with the Bulgarian option. It was fantastic. Everything was fresh. On weekends, you only have an omelet option, which was also great. For dinner, I got Sea Bass and it was also great! I am fully satisfied with the food served at this hotel. The only criticism I can give is that the breakfast serving window is very small and late (8:30 am to 10:30 am if I remember correctly) and you have to wait for more than usual to get your food.
Cons: The rooms have tile floors, which look cold but are not since I believe they use floor heating. The problem is that they don't offer slippers, which I don't like, since the same tiles continue into the toilet. It doesn't feel clean.
They also don't offer toothbrushes which I would have really appreciated.
I had to unplug the fridge since the compressor made a lot of noise when turning off and on, and I'm a light sleeper.
Overall I would recommend this place if the location suits you, just bring your own slippers and enjoy the food!
KKonstantin AlekseevClean, perfect location, free parking. The beds are a bit hard and it would be better of you guys check whether the bottles of water in the rooms are full; mines were empty.
GGuest UserThe attitude of the receptionist was unprofessional, rude and unacceptable.
For one hour, the whole hotel didn’t know how to charge my credit card, as their credit card machine doesn’t follow EU rules for 3D security, thus jeopardising clients’ private data. I wasted a full hour on the phone with my bank, only to find out that the hotel doesn’t follow rules on how to securely handle credit card data. The management kept telling me that it’s my fault, despite the fact I never before have had problems with card payments before.
Breakfast food was decent, with a choice between a couple of set menus.
The hotel was clean, rooms were quiet, and it was situated and in a convenient location, within 3-4 minutes from the nearest metro station.
Some of the photos on their site are dated, as the interior is different now.
PPHILLIP JAMESThis is a great new hostel concept for Sofia and Bulgaria. Its nice to have a fully enclosed bed (with curtain) which add to privacy, when sharing a room (dorm) with 4 other travellers Furthermore there are several lighting options within the actual bed area full and dime lightening, However, I was allocated a top bed in the dorm, I did find it hard at first to get in and out. Perhaps I am just too old for the hostel concept! - No seriously, it was very good for a hostel. The room was air-conditioned and seemed to work well. Great exchange with fellow travellers in my room, the benefits of staying in a hostel. Our external bathroom, was directly opposite with several showers and toilets. However, one facility was out of order. There are two different kitchens on different levels. I checked in at the allocated time - at first there seemed to be some problem with the reservation. I had prepaid my reservation, though Trip.com, but the vast majority of travellers use hostelworld.com, which only require a deposit, with the remaining payment given at the hostel. This created some confusion at check-inn. The hostel is very close to the main railway and bus station (10 min walk). However, this hostel is quite far from the main tourism zones and sights of Sofia, which is about 45 to 50 walk. However, there a several trams & buses to get you there - maybe little a bit confusing for first time Sofia traveller. Overall, I highly recommend this hostel.
GGuest UserI thought the location was good as it was about 10 minutes walk from Sofia Central Station, walking distance to the center, and supermarket nearby.
It's not that it's not beautiful, but overall the hotel was dark. It may be influenced by carpets and lighting.
The service is not bad, but the receptionist was a little blunt or unfriendly. It is said that there are many people who are shy as Bulgarian nationality, so I think that is what it is.
Amenities included shampoo, shower gel, solid soap, bath towels, face towels, bath mat, but no tissues, toothbrushes, slippers, room clothes, etc. There is no water in the PET bottle, so when drinking coffee or tea as amenities, you need to use tap water or the water you bought yourself.
All breakfast was delicious.
It seems that there are basically no people in charge other than replenishing meals and taking charge of the lower set, and it seems that each can be used freely.
BBeryl XuIt’s actually 🈶** in the hotel. So the parking fee is expensive. It’s about less than 100 RMB per night. Because the hotel is relatively cost-effective, you can actually ignore the outdated facilities. When checking in at the front desk, I was assigned to the second floor. I said I wanted a higher floor. There should be a manager next to me who can tell me that you have to ask for it. I said I have a request. I show them the requirements I wrote. Because of the word count requirement, I wrote it in Chinese on Ctrip. The other party immediately said that we couldn’t understand. I responded immediately. Don’t you have a translator? Then I reluctantly gave it to the sixth floor. 👌. When checking out, I especially want to praise the front desk with long brown hair. The service attitude is very good. I want to print out my car insurance policy. Everyone helped.
AAnonymous UserPerfect location. The front door of the hotel may not be easy to find in a second, but still able to manage it. Even if you have a late flight and check-in late, there are still some food available around the hotel. Perfect location to the city centre Serdica by walking. The room inside is new, clean and cozy. A television with Youtube and Netflix. However, there are some insects (like spiders) in the room, maybe not the hotel’s fault, just because the building is old and was renewed. Perfect price, may book the same hotel again if come again next time.
KKarenGWe stayed in this hotel for 2 nights on our way to Romania
Pros- the hotel is in a great location. Quiet leafy street, 500 meters to main bus and train terminal, approx 20 min walk to Vitosha boulevard
- the room itself is quite nice, the TV has English channels, the balcony was an unexpected plus
- the breakfast provided is adequate, though you need to go to an adjacent hotel
- the staff were friendly and did their best to help
Cons- the bed was not made up, they provided a single bed sheet for a queen sized bed. There was only one glass for 2 people. The quilt in the cupboard was filthy, it had no cover and we couldn’t use it
- the mattress has no protector and is too soft. It might suit some but it is too soft for a hotel mattress
- I tried to call reception to ask them for another sheet, a clean quilt and a glass. No one answered the phone. (I was told the next day that the phone is broken ). I went downstairs to find someone but no one was there or answered the bell on the desk. The next day I was told that the receptionist had to cover two hotels so is not always there . Please take note if you are arriving late to the hotel-there May be non one to check you in
They are also very strict on check in times. If you want an earlier check in time than 2 pm you need to pay for it
Overall the hotel is decent. If there had have been someone at reception all the issues would have been quickly resolved
The main complaint is the cleaning and maintenance of rooms
GGuest UserThe Rila Hotel is an old hotel with old facilities, shoe box size elevators but in a very central part of the town near to everything. Our first night we stayed in a standard small room ( I think it cost $46 maybe $50 with taxes etc )that was not satisfactory. The next day for $10 - $12 per day upgrade we moved into a double size spacious/suite room with 2 balconies !! Very nice to sit out on the balcony with the afternoon setting sun and to wash out a few cloth items and let the sun dry them. Neither of the rooms had shower curtains in the bathrooms. When i enquired about this I was told this was done because of covid. Hhmmm not sure how a shower curtain has any bearing on covid ? We stayed a total of 7 nights and only once, after I called down to the front desk, did a chamer maid come up and take out the garbage and change the towels. To be fair my girlfriend has a habit of spreading all her things all over the 2 rooms so we hesitated to make a fuss. I can imagine a maid being shocked to walk in and not know what to do in all the mess. Breakfast cost extra and was only ok but enough to start the day. There was a large flat screen TV which we never turned on, there was no safe deposit box in the room but we were able to leave our valuables downstairs at the front desk. There are other hotels also nearby that are probably more renovated and modern and most likely cost a little more. On our next trip we most likely will see about other options. The staff was friendly and helpful. I guess it depends on what your expectations are but for us it worked.
GGuest UserI booked thinking it would have air conditioning, but it didn't. It was a summer night but luckily it was cool so no problem.
There was a post raising issues with the card for the room key and lights, so I resolved it by inserting another card.
Now you can escape the pain of locking from the inside in the dark.
There was a mysterious hole in the toilet. You can see the piping. I thought it would be better to be invisible here,
