Lovely friendly efficient welcome on arrival. Immaculately clean room beautifully presented overlooking the car park but really quiet, we had a great nights sleep. Quick friendly check out. Very conveniently situated near motorway and short drive into Wellington & Taunton. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again.

Room ok, staff all great apart from a lady with red hair who was very abrupt. Breakfast had to be pre ordered which was fine but on my last morning I did not want a cooked breakfast, so just had the continental. On departure we were being charged for the breakfast I didn't have. When I questioned this and said I didn't have breakfast this morning the lady at the desk said 'yes you did' quite abruptly, which obviously my response was 'no, I did not'. This seemed to be a problem as the mood was very grumpy from her. Also tried to charge for another day for parking which was incorrect as we had to park across the road as the entrance was too tight for our vehicle. Overall lovely staff and food, just really let down by the lady with the red hair on check out unfortunately.

the rooms aren't bad for what you pay -- albeit the plumbing is really old and the bathroom had a bad odor. But the service in the problem. I booked a triple room for myself and my daughter for a 7 night stay. The room was right over an extremely noisy street – and you had to open the windows at night as the room was hot and stuffy. I couldn’t sleep at all the first night with all the traffic noise, so I asked the next morning if we could move to a quieter room. I told them I don’t mind downgrading, we just need something with two beds and quieter. At first they were very helpful, providing a single quiet courtesy room just for me (my daughter stayed and slept with headphones in), and told me they would work it out for the rest of the stay. But after 2 nights they told me I had to leave the quiet room. I asked again if we can move to another room and they told me no, it’s all booked. . I asked why they didn’t give me a chance to book the extra single room before they rented it and they got extremely rude and evaded the question. They told me it was too bad and if I don’t like it I could leave. I asked if I leave, can have my money back for the unused nights and they said no. I wound up leaving with three nights left of my stay. (no refund for unused nights) I asked for written proof that I was leaving and the the assistant manager started yelling at me. Really unprofessional. Don’t stay here.

A friend and I stayed at The Castle for a girls weekend away. It was a nice treat and perfectly located for exploring Taunton centre. Bars and restaurants just a stroll away. Staff were friendly. Parking was convenient. £10 for 24 hours. Room was clean but very expensive for what it was as we upgraded but it wasn't anything special.

I have stayed at the New Barn B&B, just for 1 might, for the first time in July and it was very good indeed. Good facilities – plenty in the tea and coffee making tray, comfortable bed, beautifully clean bathroom with all provisions. The bedroom and all ‘public’ rooms were well presented and very clean. Julie ( the host) is very friendly and most helpful and accommodating. To top it all there is the really splendid ‘full English’ breakfast freshly cooked for you – unlike the big hotels. It can be difficult to find but use Google Maps and, especially Street View, and you will find the lane leading to this B&B. It is a useful location for touring this area but also as a good overnight stopover en route to Devom and Cornwall. All in all, highly recommended.

The hotel is situated on the busy A38 but is not affected by traffic noise. All the staff are polite and considerate and go the extra mile to provide good service The food is outstanding ; beautifully presented and prepared. And it tastes great too! Good bar too which is imp because there’s little else to find a drink in the village. Ideal for short or longer stays if you have a car. Taunton is clos for good shopping and the Somerset levels a dozen miles away. I’d stay there again anytime.

OK, along with 90% of the hotel residents, I have been staying as part of Team HPC. I am eight or nine weeks in, they all blurr into one. With two-to-four weeks left. Six different rooms - so here is the low-down. The hotel and rooms are clean. Really clean. The person making up my room during my last visit even folded-up my clothes and hung them up. Unfortunately, there is the option of ”green” (no clean) and full clean. There is nothing inbetween. I would be happy to have the water, biscuits, coffee, milk etc replaced and not have new towels/ bed made - but there was not an option. All or nothing. Location: Some reviews say it is in the ”rough part of town”. Ha! That is Bridgwater. I can say that as I used to live in a one-up/ one-down on Old Taunton Road. It is not in the rough part of town, it is just in the town. Also nice to see that with £32bn being pumped into the local economy the local council have done nothing. Not even fixed the potholes. The location is great, close to town, close to the motorway exits, near restaurants (although Marco Pierre restautant in hotel is excellent). Room: Generally comfy but really bad pillows. The one where one is not enough, but two gives you neck ache. I bought my own from home and (without fail) everyone used to say that was such a good idea on check-in/ check-out. I did ask if there were any other pillow options (memory foam, feather etc) but was told ”no”. There is a fridge with complimentary carbonated and still water, but these are only replaced if you go for the full clean option (see above). Avoid (at all costs) certain 4th floor rooms (from memory it was 401-404). They are right under the gym on the 5th dloor and I was woken up with the gym-bunnies going for it really early in the morning, or struggled to get to sleep at night. The sound of the treadmill and weights being dropped were heard by the wife on the phone. Parking: Yes, you have to pay an additional £10 per day, but they tell you that in advance. You generally need to park next-door, but leaving a £50K Audi there was not problematic (apart from the sea-gulls which crap all over the car - not the hotel's fault). Gym: I went, but not at silly o'clock in the morning or late at night. It is small. To the point I couldn't use one machine for hitting the person on the next machine. It is below-par at best. Brekkie: Stand-out great. OK, I have eaten at some hotels where they had 4 different types of sausage available (six if you include vegetarian and vegan), but the brekkie here is great. Full fry-up (nice quality and tasty (eggs are a tad insepid). Continental, croissants, ham, cheeses, different breads, and all the healthy stuff as well (yoghurt, fruit, nuts etc). What is a really nice touch is that you can also make a take-away coffee if you need one. Staff: Honestly, they are what makes this hotel. All super-friendly and helpful. This is a hotel with a British character, located just across the road from Taunton Railway Station, but not noisy. Although it is a long history, the painting and protection are excellent. Breakfast is English, the weight is very large, the taste, I personally like it. But, after all, it is an old house, there is no elevator, and it is very inconvenient to have a lot of luggage. Moreover, the faucet and shower are more difficult to adjust, and the water temperature may be hot! However, the heating is really good and it is also hot. The young lady who serves here is very beautiful and patient.
