Hilton Lake Taupo

The hotel is located on a hillside, not far from the center of Taupo and close to the airport. The room is clean, but a little small. There is a heating pipe in the bathroom where you can dry your laundry. Overall, I am satisfied. There is a small balcony with a table where you can eat outdoors.

We stayed in two units for 3 nights for a birthday celebration. The rooms were lovely, spotlessly clean with comfortable beds. The service was fantastic our every need was met with warm friendly, efficient service. Highlight was the pool and its Cabana which we made good use of. There were 6 of us so it was fantastic to share drinks and a takeaway meal in the Cabana. Thank you so much for helping to make our weekend so special. Highly recommended!

Been meaning to stay for years as rest of family have many times. Loved it, BUT....... security needs updating. Maybe they are doing that as toilet security door was missing and so was front access barrier! Had some very suspect people using toilet and shower facilities this morning. Definitely didn't look like guest and didn't have caravan or tent. By the look of the face tattoos looked like and behaved like gang members. Without security gates or doors they will just come in. Also some people had a lot of food- meat stolen from fridge. Sad. :( ALL THAT SAID- it's still a lovely camp. Facilities are clean, and good location next to hot pools and good sites with reasonable privacy on most sites. Would stay again.
VU Thermal Lodge - Adults Only Motel

Initially looking at the photos of the place, the rooms and motel look recently renovated, and seemed well worth the cost. However, upon arriving, 1st impressions were, ”this isnt what the photos show”; ”little bit of false advertising going on here”. However, not one to judge a book by its cover and to give everything a chance, the hope was that the room would be as good as the website showed and stated. Well, long story short, it wasn't. Not just the motel but the room itself. The motel looks dated and very cheaply built. Even the workmen ship looks cheap too, including the products used. The paint, the carpet on the stairs and patio, hell, even the card readers on the doors; it all looks like it was brought at the $2 shop. Then the room itself. Um, put it this way, the floor tiles on the kitchen and bathroom floors and the tv were the only new/recent things in the entire room. Only mentioning 3 things: 1: a massive Bench oven, that belongs in the 70's, instead of a microwave, which is found in any other motel. 2: the so called ”2 in 1 shampoo/ body wash”. Ya felt more dirtier/grubbier after using that, compared to before hopping in. WAY Better off buying/providing both your own, AND ACTUAL, shampoo and soap. 3: unless you're wearing very dark sunglasses, dont bother turning on the light in the shape of a balloon/lantern. Its brighter than the brightness of burning magnesium. ( plus: - the bed was very hard, - no sky tv + not all freeview channels work either, - the a.c unit is in the wrong place; pointless only cooling/heating a smidge of the room, instead of the whole room, - only one power socket on one side of the bed; no option of extension lead either, - buy own milk, unless you feel like using 6 sample sized tubs for your coffee. - hope everyone parks straight and proper in car parks, otherwise, good luck; it's not the best. In a nutshell, if your happy to stay and pay at a motel that is not only falsely advertised and way over priced, but was designed and built for extremely cheap, including the ”Far East” interior design, and b.y.o is better than what's provided, then by all means, stay here. Oh, and the lake is best viewed from the downstairs, outside and uncovered deck. Lovely views of the road from your room. #wontstayhereagain #disappointed #wasteofmoney #rattenshizer
Chalet Eiger

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights the day after our wedding. With all the stress of planning a wedding (especially during covid) it was exactly what we needed and more. Peter and Nina looked after us so well and treated us like we were their own. Upon arrival we had a cheese platter with champagne and chocolate waiting for us in our room, canapés before dinner, a 3 course meal, a massive breakfast with plenty of options! A couples massage and a picnic. The food was outstanding and you can be assured that you will not go without! There is not one thing at Chalet Eiger that we would change/think needs improving - we truly think it is perfect. After a crazy wedding this get a way was exactly what we needed, we were able to relax completely here, Great conversations and recommendations of what to do in Taupo and the most beautiful dogs - Bella and Rufus. Thank you so much for having us and looking after us after such a stressful lead up to our wedding, we hope to be back very soon!

Highly recommend these wonderful apartments right on the lake front close to all the best spots. Next door to our favourite breakfast spot (The Cove) and a stroll along the lakefront to 2 Mile Bay sailing Club. Beautiful views from our ground floor apartment which was so spacious and tastefully decorated. The spa in the room was so luxurious. Relaxing in the comfort of our own room whilst still able to catch a movie on the TV! No road noise. Lovely, welcoming, friendly management. Will definitely be back (with kids in tow next time). Superb!!
