First of all, the room is slanted, and the bathroom has serious drainage. For breakfast, you know, Western-based, very general, the tricks are repeated. The Belvedere Strandhotel in Spiez was a great hotel for me and my husband during our time in the Interlaken region. Upon arrival, the hotel kindly sent a shuttle to pick us up at the train station, a true perk when you travel with luggage (the hotel is a 10 min walk from the train station). We loved the pool/spa areas, which were great for relaxing after a long day of hiking/tourism. The spa overlooks the lake and we even sat in the sauna while it rained to take in more of the view. The staff was friendly but there was a bit of a language barrier. We would have given the hotel 5 stars but the room was terribly hot and opening the windows would attract bugs (plus it didn't really help cool down the room). Otherwise, the room was clean, comfortable, and spacious.

This was our second visit to Hotel Bellevue au Lac and again we were not disappointed. Lovely staff who couldn't have been more helpful. Our room looked out over the lake with a balcony where I could have sat all day. The location was very good with a bus stop outside the hotel which had us at the station in 13 minutes. Being by the lake we could hop onto the paddle boats with ease ads there landing stage was only yards from the hotel. Views were spectacular with access easy to tourist spots. The restaurant was a delight and breakfast plentiful and tasty. We sat on the verandah both to eat our meals and also to relax. We dined there in the evening several times and can highly recommend the food. We enjoyed ourselves so much here that we have already booked to return in 2024.

I see other negative reviews about this hotel and I agree with them and I was aghast that this is supposed to be a 4 star hotel? It is more like a hostel. True, it is conveniently located near the train station and that is its only redeeming feature. The twin room where we stayed reminded me of the student accommodation many many years ago where I stayed at the University of Montpellier in France: spartan. The Hey hotel had a set of planks put together which supposedly should be a table, but there was no chair whatsoever; no closet; no air conditioned (fortunately in our room there was a small stand up fan that gyrates), a small mirror and a standard bathroom. There is a phone and a flat screen TV. Also, a cockroach was seen in the premises. Not recommended.

Restaurant on the first floor, accommodation on the second floor and above. The accommodation is hygienic and comfortable, and outside is the fairy tale world under the snow-capped mountains of Switzerland. The restaurant has a history of 100 years.
