Stayed here last autumn and had a good stay, so booked to stay again this month when I was going to be in the area again. Unfortunately, the hotel has had a steep decline in quality since my first stay. Customer service has become very poor; the person working reception was polite during check-in but didn't seem to have been trained much (if I hadn't stayed before, I would've had no idea where to park, when breakfast was, that there was WiFi...). More than once when I went to reception, a staff member saw me from a distance and retreated instead of coming to assist me. There was one lady in reception who was very good at the job and helpful, but she was the exception. Of relation to customer service, the buffet breakfast was of very variable quality from day to day. Not clear if lack of some items on given days was a matter of supply or simply a failure to put things out. Silverware and cups were also dirty a few times, or just weren't available at all. Trash can in room wasn't emptied for several days in a row despite a complaint to reception and it being so full we started a separate bag. Towels were removed but not replaced one of the days. Maid service also ignored when we left sign on door one day saying it did not need to be cleaned... which isn't a huge deal on its own, but seemed part of a larger pattern of a sloppy approach. I'd guessed that the hotel was having problems retaining staff and that this is reason for the customer service issues; per a local, the hotel did fire much of the staff over the winter due to COVID and when they tried to rehire for summer, found that many people had found other jobs, so the staff is almost entirely new. The room itself was fine, although the lack of a kettle is frustrating, particularly given that this is on the more expensive end for the area. Bathroom was a good size, water pressure was fantastic, air conditioner worked well. Stayed in one of the double rooms, and these feature shutters on the windows, which I was very happy about since I hate having the sun streaming through the window at 7 a.m. The shutter also helped keep noise from outdoors out of the room. Locks on doors, which were key entry last autumn, have been "upgraded" to card entry. The lock on our room at least was not very reliable; had to get a new card twice. I am not happy that these doors still lack deadbolts. Still no elevator; when I stayed in 2020, I was told that one was going to be added as part of renovations, but in the interim that intent was seemingly abandoned. Hope the hotel bounces back, but right now it just is not a good choice, especially when there's a lot of availability in other hotels, B&Bs, etc. in the area.
