Kinosaki the Crab House Kanian

The location is superb, nestled in an alley next to Jizo-yu (a traditional Japanese bath), quiet and away from the main street, so there's no noise from passing cars or the clatter of wooden clogs. Check-in is at 4 PM. Arriving early might mean no one's there; just leave your luggage at the door and wander around. There are security cameras everywhere, so it's very safe. Rooms vary in size; your assigned room is entirely based on luck. But rest assured, each room has its own unique character, very Japanese, with fragrant tatami mats and thoughtful touches. For one night's stay, each person receives two bath passes, so plan accordingly: one in the afternoon, one in the guesthouse's private bath in the evening, and one in the public bath at 7 AM the next day, then you can leave. The meals were surprisingly delicious, all Japanese home-style dishes. We were lucky enough to get snow crab, which we loved. The only inconvenience was communication. None of the staff at this family-run guesthouse spoke English, and even translation software wasn't accurate. Basically, they spoke their Japanese, I spoke my English, and my friend spoke Chinese—a three-way conversation! However, the owners were very welcoming.

A traditional Japanese hotel. We slept on futons under cloud-soft blankets, ate a delicious kaiseki-style dinner (there was even crab!), and went to the public onsen and a small onsen bath. The hotel provides yukata, geta, and two free tickets to any of the seven onsen. Kinosakionsen itself is small, but very colorful! I highly recommend this hotel.
