Ryokan Hanaya

It's charming and Very good.

I have stayed here three times. This time, the room with hot spring had been renovated, and I was able to enjoy the retro a**osphere while staying there comfortably. There are five baths, including the room and the open-air bath. The hot spring is great for warming up. The breakfast we had in our spacious room on the second floor was delicious and relaxing, while looking out at the bright spring light and fresh greenery. I think it was better than having dinner in our room. As a side note, the siphon coffee with cookies for 600 yen that we had in the reception room on the first floor after the meal was also excellent. I think the water here is also delicious.

It's conveniently located just a short walk from the station. The building is over 100 years old, so it's old-fashioned and relaxing. It was also great that we could try out three different types of baths. One of them was an open-air bath, and the changing room was outdoors, so I think you need to take precautions against the cold during the cold winter months. The inn also gave us free tickets to three public hot springs. The food was kaiseki cuisine, and the ingredients were delicious, including local wagyu beef shabu-shabu. There were temples and other sights to see around the inn, so it was a good place for a stroll.

I visited in the middle of May. It was a room with an open-air bath in the detached room, and it was a room meal both at night and in the morning. Highly recommended. The room is clean and the bath has plenty of hot water. The innkeepers are very kind. The garden is beautiful, and everything is connected by a corridor, so you don't have to worry about rain. I was too satisfied with the dinner. The 8-inch sashimi and bowls are all seasonal, and the fish and shabu-shabu are full, but the cherry blossom shrimp rice at the end is the best and I ate too much. I thought I would take a bath after dinner, but I was too full to move. The bath is a marble bath and an open-air bath, which is very comfortable. The amount of hot water is amazing even though the bath in the room is small! I was healed by the faint scent of sulfur with the hot spring flowers! I want to ask you again! Actually, I would like to visit during the matsutake season, but it may not be possible due to the price! It was my first trip to Bessho Onsen!

When I checked in, I was surprised to see a woman wearing a Taisho Roman style arrow pattern and hakama. His demeanor is relaxed and truly retro. Impatient people may get irritated. Everything is Japanese retro. The lobby and the hallway that runs through the garden are truly retro. The scenery looked like something you could see in a historical drama. There are 3 baths. The two bathrooms are divided into a men's bath and a women's bath depending on the time of day. The open-air baths are separate for men and women, with separate entrances. Meals are taken in the dining hall, and the pillars and beams of this dining hall are reminiscent of a castle. At breakfast, the woman in yesterday's hakama and kimono was wearing a black dress and white apron. It was a Taisho romantic maid costume. Dinner includes 3 seasonal matsutake mushroom dishes. I had a relaxing time for the first time in a while.

I used it on a solo winter trip. Hot springs are the best. Each kaiseki meal is handmade, the soup stock is very delicious, and the staff's hospitality is top-notch. The scenery of the corridor running through the courtyard is very nice ♪

We stayed in a detached room with an open-air bath. You can see the cherry blossoms from the open-air bath, and you can enjoy a luxurious time many times a day (because you took a bath many times). I think this is one of the few ryokan in Japan where you can enjoy authentic kaiseki cuisine. (Isn't it hard to find a ryokan that serves such authentic Japanese food?) The large public bath has a retro feel and the quality of the hot springs is good. It is an "extraordinary world" that shows us.
