Ueda Plaza Hotel Tenjin
7.0 (10 reviews)

Ueda Plaza Hotel Tenjin

📍 1-2-32 Tenjin, Ueda-shi, Ueda

"This is a somewhat old, traditional Japanese hotel; the facilities show signs of age, but it's still kept quite clean. The hotel is very close to JR Ueda Station, just a five-minute walk. Note that breakfast is served at a sister hotel, a 3-5 minute walk away. The breakfast is simple, but the taste is acceptable. This hotel is a good option for a layover; the price is very reasonable, and I would stay here again next time."

📍 1628 Besshoonsen, Ueda

"I really enjoyed my stay here! I had a Sanada Yukimura-style room, beautiful and cozy. The hot tubs are wonderful, with views of Bessho Onsen, and the autumn colors were so vibrant. Breakfast and dinner were also fantastic! Thank you!"

Ueda Tokyu Rei Hotel

Ueda Tokyu Rei Hotel ★★★

📍 4 Chome-24-1 Tenjin, Ueda

"I think it's okay. I felt sad that the breakfast cook only browned the oyaki. *I wish the cook would do things like grilling or making pancakes."

Anzuan Nishida
8.9 (1 reviews)

Anzuan Nishida ★★★

📍 1049-4 Besshoonsen, Ueda

"The owner is very kind. It's quite tiring to walk from the station. You'll sweat a lot even after soaking in the hot spring, so you'll need to change clothes. They provide a shuttle service, so please ask them. Since it's located in a forest-like area, ants and spiders tend to get into the room. It's a bit disappointing that you can't easily go to the hot spring town."

"Since the booking sites were full during the Obon period, I contacted the inn directly and they kindly accepted my reservation ^^ (I got a 5% discount for booking early). I arrived a little early, but they allowed me to check in without any trouble. The lobby and room both gave the impression of being a little cluttered, but I later realized that this was part of their hospitality. There was a pickle set and a sweets set waiting for me, which was perfect since I hadn't had lunch. My room was the Asagiri-so special room with a panoramic open-air bath. It seemed to have been recently renovated, as it was very clean. I could see Kitamuki Kannon from the balcony, and the view was great, and the sulfur-scented hot spring was very pleasant. (There is also an open-air bath in the public bath.) Meals were served in my room, the service from the maid was pleasant, and the proprietress came to greet me at dinner. They took great care to accommodate my allergies to certain foods that I had informed them of in advance, and I was impressed that an inn would go to such lengths. The meal was delicious, incorporating local and seasonal ingredients. At night, there seemed to be a festival at Kitamuki Kannon, and it was lively until late. The sound of bells could be heard in the evening and morning, and all of that, including the bells, gave me a nostalgic feeling. I felt soothed by the warm hospitality of the inn. Thank you very much!"

Bessho Onsen Midoriya Hotels in Ueda

Bessho Onsen Midoriya

"Perfect stay. Amazing modern onsen ryokan. Lovely privat baths ideal for couples or families. Food was also really good and communication with the lovely staff in english (with some help from google translate) easy."

Besshoonsen Nanjyo Ryokan Hotels in Ueda

Besshoonsen Nanjyo Ryokan

"We stayed a week at Nanjyo Ryokan and had a very pleasant stay in Bessho Onsen thanks in large part to Katsuki Ide, who helped us with our online reservation and made certain that we had a wonderful stay. Our Japanese style room was lovely: very spacious with a view of the (small) garden which you can visit on your way to the public baths. (Be sure to take advantage of the Shampoo Bar in the women’s bath.) The hotel is old and shows its age, but being aware of this beforehand we knew what to expect. There were marks and repairs on the walls, some strange heating pipes visible under the closet, not the cleanest floor to ceiling window, along with routine signs of wear; none of this was an issue and one might say it added to the charm. The many connected annexes and hallways meant that you could get lost trying to find your room if you don’t have a good sense of direction. The renovated lobby was comfortable, with books to browse and games to use, jazz playing during the day, and Charlie Chaplin silent movies at night (subtitles in Japanese plus background music). Coffee, tea and cocoa were available in the lobby all day with a wide selection of beautiful cups and saucers. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We spent several days visiting the sites in Bessho Onsen. We also spent a morning at Shimonogo Ikushimatarushima Shrine which was very worthwhile. It is easily accessible by train or as one of your stops on the “Heritage Bus” which we took on another day. (¥500 each). We will definitely consider returning at some point for autumn foliage in Bessho Onsen."

"In October 2019, when the typhoon had a big impact on Nagano, I was planning to go from Kusatsu Onsen to Bessho Onsen, but it was canceled (I was offered a glass of wine this time). I rebooked this inn for the first time in 4 years. Reviews are mixed: black phone, old, cold, no hot water. The room is a Kyoto room, so it's small in a Kanto style, but the lintel, nagaoshi, and wall features are more elaborate than they look. I don't really like eating in my room. The food was a good amount and included matsutake mushrooms. The bar counter in the lobby has also been transformed into a reading area for the owner, and the garden is lush enough to remind you of the beauty of yesteryear. The hot water is good, but the water is sulfur and acidic, so the faucets here and there are broken, but that's just as the reviews say. There are two parking spaces in front of the inn, and the rest will probably be parked in the hot spring parking lot. I like the fact that it's a family-run business, so there's no annoying customer service, and the host and landlady's natural customer service."

Bessho Onsen Kashiwaya Honten Hotels in Ueda

Bessho Onsen Kashiwaya Honten

"This hotel is located right next to the Kitamuki Kannon template in the bessho onsen area. A very nice place with welcoming and friendly staff. The surrounding place is calming, allowing you to slow down and unwind from the usual busy bustling city life. Little details from nice room design and amenities, valet parking to serving afternoon snacks and coffee/teas definitely make on-the-road travellers relaxed and comfortable. Food was excellent too - fresh, tasty and well presented for guests to enjoy in private dining rooms. Overall a great experience and stay."

"The people at the inn were very attentive and the atmosphere was very comfortable. The food was also delicious and there was so much we couldn't finish it. It would be nice to stay two or three nights instead of just one and relax. I would definitely use Nakamatsuya again."

"This was my first time using it. The staff was friendly and the room was spacious and clean, with a great view and my family was happy. My son was looking forward to the buffet-style meals, which had a wide variety of choices, and I was very impressed with the menu, which seemed to be designed with health in mind. The staff at the restaurant were very nice and I wanted to use them again until the second night. However, on the day I got home, I was given a place where I could have breakfast at the back of the room, where I couldn't see the food or the staff. I think the family members sitting with me felt the same way, as they didn't talk during the meal. The other seats had been cleared and there were a lot of empty seats, so I think it was due to the restaurant's timing, but I was very sad about the difference in service even though I paid the same price. It was a shame that it left a scar on my heart at the very end because it was good up until that point. More than anything, I am saddened that my family was made to feel this way. I felt that they should think carefully about what true hospitality is."

Saito Ryokan Hotels in Ueda

Saito Ryokan

"I stayed overnight without meals included, arrived late at night, and left on the first train of the day, but I felt a sense of peace and tranquility that only a small, cozy place can offer. The landlady was very kind, and the sulfurous hot spring water was wonderful."

"It's about a 5-minute walk from Ueda Station, so there are convenience stores and restaurants nearby, making it a convenient location. While the facilities are undeniably old, it has the bare minimum amenities, including a microwave and a coin laundry. It's a good value for money for solo travelers, whether for business or sightseeing. The bus stop for the express bus to Ikebukuro Station is just a 3-minute walk away."

"It was amazing! Starting from meeting at the station and ending with perfect water temperature! I had amazing experience with kaiseki cuisine, which this hotel provide. It was so tasty and so many things, that I was overeating. 😅 And I meet a samurai (mascot) during the dinner. ☺️ The room was exactly the same with picture and really comfortable.👍🏻 It is possible to take a private bath in the hotel. I used this service and can say, that I totally enjoyed it! As you can understand, I am really impressed by this hotel. Highly recommend it!"
