Al Portico Guest House

We pre-paid to stay at this hotel before covid. Once covid happened they refused to give us a refund even though we were from Australia and unable to leave the country as we were locked down. I wrote many emails to them explaining what was happening and could we please have a refund as we cannot attend but was told no. Be careful of this hotel as they will take your money and if anything goes wrong, they do not care!

I feel like the photos advertised make the hotel look nicer than our room was. We found it easily enough using Google maps, about a 10 minute walk from the train station. We arrived late afternoon and a member of staff was still on site to check us in. Rooms were small as expected for Venice but the flooring was not as pictured, red stone with multiple cracks. The bed was very firm, I found it very uncomfortable but my partner didn't mind it. Not sure why there's a bath as it is so small, it would make more sense to have a walk in shower. Bathroom was a bit grotty and could do with an upgrade. We were there 2 nights and the bin wasn't emptied but bed was made. The location was ideal for exploring on foot. Overall, I believe this was overpriced for the quality but is similar to other properties in Venice. If I was going again, I would splurge a little to stay somewhere nice as it is a beautiful city.

This property was located around everything you needed. Checking was seamless. Nicholas was very informative and helpful. I will recommend this location.

Booked this place was given another apartment, no warning never even acknowledged, up all night long travel from asia arriving late afternoon brain was not engaged, the place provided did not look as good as the booked one, 2 very small bottles of liquid soap provided, seriously, lucky I carry soap for times like that, that was Venice, pricy and very old, but that apartment last seen any type of renovation in the 1970s, didn’t make a fuss as we had 3 nights and 2 full days there they where unlikely to do anything apart from apologise if I spoke up, oh you think I may have been entitled to a small refund? Fat chance, Venice is over priced, now in Naples I can tell you the mafia isn’t just here, hope they don’t block or alter my review, anyway can’t review what I never got so take it from me better to avoid this group if you a fussy fella….

One block from the main drag making it really easy to join the party while having silence in the unit. Really cool to have windows that open right onto the canal. Unit had 4 rooms including full euro-kitchen. AC and heat.

Close to the main path of walking and in a quieter area of Venice. It was great!

This is a quaint, no frills property in a great location. The staff are the nicest people! Cute little patio area. It is not a fancy hotel, but clean and in a great location.

Nicolas (not sure of spelling!) Was an excellent host. He gave us some really useful tips on where to go to get the most out of our stay. The air con was brilliant and the room was a good size (especially for Venice) with a comfy bed. The in room breakfast really set us up well for the day. Having a fridge in the room and being located near a supermarket (despair) was also really helpful.

The location was perfect, once we found it. Lots of shops and cafes walking distance. No lift, and stayed on top floor. Really difficult to get up with luggage.
