Things went poorly for us from the beginning of our time at Hotel Eyjar. Understandably for a small operation, a note was left on the door stating that we could call to begin the check-in process. However, for an operation and country with primarily English-speaking residents, seems odd the note was only in Icelandic. We translated, called and someone met us to check us in within 10 minutes. The 4 bedroom room we were shown had an eclectic furniture style (not a problem) but the floors had clearly not been swept - the only initial problem we had with the hotel. We then came to discover when attempting to throw away some of our own trash, the trash under the sink in the main room was OVERFLOWING with trash from previous tenants including multiple pizza boxes, food items, and 3 full grocery bags. Due to no other options, we stayed the night but left promptly in the morning not opting for whatever breakfast was in store. Couldn't discouraging booking here strongly enough.
