Smartments Business Wien Hauptbahnhof - Serviced Apartments

We decided to bokk a self-service apartment for our one week stay in Vienna (partly because of the price/location ratio), but we soon came to regret it. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon, well aware that the reception would be closed over the weekend, but we had not anticipated the problems we were going to experience. The hotel had promised to mail us final registration instructions three days before our arrival, but the mail did not arrive until after we had arrived, and because of the trouble in registration we did not find it until the next day! Consequently, we did not know how to open the front door to get in to the registration area, but fortunately another guest let us in. Then the nightmare began: We followed the instructions on the check-in computer, then we filled in the necessary information and managed to get as far as signing, only to receive the following message: ”Your room allotment can not be processed at this time. Please try again later.” This happened three times within the next hour. A friendly guest passing by helped us locarting the emergency service phone number, but after having tried that number three or four times without success (the call was aborted after a few seconds), we were on the verge of giving up. A final attempt was successful, and our German-speaking helper managed to explain our probleø to the help desk person. She tried her best to help us, for the better part of an hour, but without success. Finally, she said that she would call the security company, and they would be there to help us in 20 minutes. After half an hour, we decided that enough was enough, and we decided to check in to a nearby hotel for two nights (until the Smartments reception opened again on Monday), with the clear intention of presenting that hotel bill to Smartments. On Monday morning, we presented ourselves at the Smartments reception and demanded to speak to the manager, who was not present. A meeting was scheduled for the next day. This time, the receptionist helped us check in (not on the faulty computer!)m and we proceeded to our room, which was OK and about what we had expected, except that the coffee maker did not work and there were two non-functioning lamps. We also could not get into the supply room to get extra towels, because our key cards did not work on that door... On Tuesday morning, I had a meeting with the manager. He offered to reimburse us for the hotel costs we had incurred for the two nights we could not get in to Smartments, and to upgrade us for the rest of our stay to their highest category of room (one grade up from our original booking), at no cost to us. This we accepted. I did, however, not find his attitude particularly forthcoming. Being a former travel industry professional myself, I was not impressed by his way of handling the problem. For the rest of our stay, we encountered no further major problems, except that our key cards were still somewhat erratic and did not at all open the supply room doors.

It's free contact hotel. Reception doesn't exist. All instructions and explanations through messages. The explanations are very clear. Breakfast, which is arranged with the restaurant that is 5 minutes' walk away, is good, nothing more than that. Please note that there is no room service during your stay. Changing towels and removing garbage is required to be done by yourself. Towels can be taken in the lounge which is located on the entrance floor. On the nursery floor there is a luggage room where you can leave them before check-in or after check-out. It is very easy to get to the city center using tram number 1. Please note, the hotel is located in an area full of reservoirs from all over the world and the atmosphere is not the most pleasant or safe, especially in the evening.

The location of the hotel is OK, the problem is the self-check in. With us the code we received via the travel agency has not worked. So we had to check in via the helpdesk with some delay. In several people, this did not work on the day too. We once forgot our room card (there is only 1 piece) in the room. No one received the phone. It has affected our stay very negatively. We would never book here again in this respect. The savings compared to other hotels with reception are low, there is no cleaning up to 3 days. Damn!!!

We were familiar with the group of city centres in France and we were not disappointed with their service in Vienna. The apartments are spacious, decorated with taste and the bedroom is comfortable (even the sofa bed). Tramway 1 is 2 minutes walking distance and allows you to reach the centre in less than 15 minutes. There are several supermarkets with less than 500m. If you have a car, a few points to know: the city park is very small and very fast full so book early (the nearest parking is cheap 3.60€/h 36€/day). In the street, the parking is free weekend and night from 22h to 7h. If there was just one comment to do, the coffee machine is. This latter has special capsules (format professionnel nespresso) not found in the commerce (only online), so they must be purchased by lot from 4 to 3.70€ a l'accueil.

We really enjoyed our stay here. We arrived late at night so used the computerised booking service to gain our key card for our apartment. Our daughter boyfriend and baby also stayed here but in a different apartment a couple of floors above us. We all loved our rooms clean and modern. The only fault we had was the remote for the tv didnt work but was rectified by reception in the morning. The restaurant was beautiful staff friendly and polite. Food tasty really good standard. Comfortable relaxing atmosphere we were impressed that we were able to watch the chefs preparing our food. We used the no 1 tram to go to the christmas markets it's a little walk around the corner but we didnt mind that. The roads are very busy around Phil's apartments and vienna is a big place so I think we would get lost if we hired a car here. Taxis we used were very punctual and organised. It cost us €45 from the airport and back bit more than stated but was a good service. The rooms are very sound proof cant hear the traffic when windows are closed. The only thing I thought the room could have done with is a tea towel and instructions on how to use the coffee machine. I didnt realise there was a dishwasher machine until the morning we left. We only had a short stay maybe reception could sell single dishwasher tablets for people on short stays. All in all we loved Phil's apartments and plan to return next year.

Excellent apartments in a new and modern area of Vienna, next to the central station. It may seem a bit far from the center, but in 30-40 minutes you reach the cathedral square by foot, passing through the beautiful Belvedere palace, or 15 by public transport. Transport is practically at the door, on the left the central station Haupbahnof, where you can take the train to the airport (RE) or the metro (U). On your right hand side, the Quartier Belvedere stop, with the urban train (S) and the tram. So the location is no excuse, which also lowers the price a bit. In addition, the apartments are new and very well equipped and spacious. Very comfortable, with a large bed and sofa, kitchen, dining room, all in an open and spacious space, decorated in an industrial chic way. The common areas have a working area and a small kitchen where you can make yourself a coffee or store things in the fridge. If you arrive later than 6pm you have to do the self check in at a machine that they have outside on the street. It is somewhat slow and tedious, but it will only take a few minutes. The wifi is good and they have luggage storage service. A perfect option for a weekend in Vienna
