Bala Villa Doichang

Mae Suai|5.67km from Doi Chang
This villa is close to the border of Chiang Rai, the location is relatively remote, near the top of the mountain, but the environment is really beautiful, the whole jungle comes into view, and you can enjoy the sunrise and sunset when you get out of the bath. The room equipment is average, only the toilet, a bed and a terrace bathtub. Because the location is remote, in fact, I also feel afraid of encountering bad people and dangers during my stay, and I can’t see the other party when someone knocks on the door. When we entered the room, the staff had put the welcome dessert into the room. We found many ants on the dessert, and saw other ants entering the room through the crack of the balcony window. The food is not unhygienic, but because the villa is too close to the top of the mountain, many different kinds of insects come in through the roof and crevices. In addition to ants, we saw moths, flying cockroaches, etc. in the room, and they would fly around, so During our stay, we also felt very scared whether we were sleeping in the room or taking a bath. The villa provides free breakfast and dinner. The food tastes good, but because there are really too many insects, they have been harassing us to eat, which makes us feel bad when eating. The villa staff worked hard to help us solve the problem and were very friendly, but the environmental equipment needs to be improved. I highly recommend adding TV, telephone, mosquito nets and security eyes on the door.

The White House Boutique Chiangrai

Chiang Rai
My girlfriend and I drive to Chiang Rai from Chiang Mai every two months to visit her parents. As a result I have stayed in almost EVERY hotel within a 45 minute drive of Phan and all have disappointed this fussy Westerner. That is until I stayed at The White House Boutique Resort. I was a little worried to stay here when I read the last review but that was in 2020 when it was obviously being built or refurbished because now it is excellent. I think all the rooms overlook a cute pond with mountain views in the background. Our room was unusual (in line with the boutique description) and more like a little one bedroom house. It was spotlessly clean, the towels were new-looking, the bed linen was very comfortable and clean (and I am very fussy about pristine cotton sheets) and the beds were very comfortable. We were late arriving due to shopping with parents but the duty manager gave us a call to check we were ok which I thought was nice. He helped us with our bags to our room and checked what time we wanted our breakfast delivered to our room! (yes it is brought on a tray to your room!) As you can see from the photo, it is a giant breakfast and we asked only for basic tea coffee and toast! It was all lovely. The biggest and best surprise for me was the ice cold air conditioning! I have stayed in many hotels in Thailand over the last 18 months and I have noticed that there is definitely a propensity for hotels to limit the controls on air conditioning units so you are still sweating with your bed. Not this place, I had a great nights sleep thanks to the White House. My girlfriend and I will be returning every two months so I might see you there! : )
